According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Giants are expecting to be without Saquon Barkley (ankle) for "the next several weeks." This was widely expected after Barkley was seen getting around on crutches following his high-ankle sprain Sunday. As impressive as Daniel Jones looked in his starting debut, Barkley's absence is still a massive blow to New York's offense and arguably an even bigger loss for fantasy owners, many of whom drafted the second-year stud first overall. Wayne Gallman will hold down the fort at running back with Barkley out and figures to be among the most popular waiver adds this week.
ESPN's Adam Schefter reports Saquon Barkley will miss 4-8 weeks with a high-ankle sprain. Monday's MRI confirmed his high ankle sprain, an injury Barkley suffered in Sunday's victory over Tampa Bay. Per Schefter, Barkley's recovery will likely be on the longer end of the 4-8 week timeframe. It's a critical blow for the Giants, who will play the next month and change without the help of their best player. With only two other running backs on their current roster (Wayne Gallman and Elijhaa Penny), the shorthanded G-Men are sure to bring in another backfield body.
Eagles coach Doug Pederson is "optimistic" Alshon Jeffery (calf) will be ready for Week 4 against the Packers. Philadelphia has a quick turnaround this week, traveling to Lambeau for Thursday Night Football. The Eagles could use a win after dropping two of their first three and adding Jeffery back to the team's wideout corps would obviously help in that endeavor.
Coach Zac Taylor said he doesn't want to make a timeline on A.J. Green's (ankle) return. Taylor confirmed that Green won't suit up for the Bengals' Monday night matchup against the Steelers in Week 4. He's also not expected to practice this week. Contract-year Green has sounded like someone who won't be taking the field until he is either 100 percent healthy, extended or both. The Bengals will continue to move forward with Tyler Boyd, John Ross and Auden Tate in 3-WR sets during Green's absence.
Ian Rapoport reports that Julian Edelman (chest) will be good and isn't dealing with a major injury. Specifically, the source stated, "He'll be good." Rapoport added that the injury isn't major and noted that Edelman hasn't been ruled out this week. The news has been consistently positive around the injury, as his chest x-rays came back negative. It seems unlikely Edelman misses an extended period of time, but he should probably still be considered questionable for the Patriots' Week 4 matchup against the Bills.
The Athletic's Joseph Person reports Cam Newton (foot) is dealing with a Lisfranc injury. Although his timetable is unclear, multiple sources told Person that surgery isn't planned for Newton at this time; the fact it's even been mentioned is concerning. A non-surgical approach to recovery from Lisfranc normally takes 4-8 weeks to heal. If the Panthers choose to keep Newton out beyond their Week 7 bye, he'll be sidelined for the next three games with potential to return in late-October (at best). At this point, it would not be shocking to see him shutdown for the second consecutive season. Kyle Allen will continue to start in his absence.
