NFL Off Season: Players getting in trouble

The misdemeanor case against Bucs WLB Geno Hayes is now closed. Hayes was arrested in December for disorderly conduct and trespassing at Tampa's Blue Martini nightclub. The first charge was dropped while Hayes pleaded no contest to the latter charge. Hayes will merely pay a fine, but it's unclear how commissioner Roger Goodell will view the incident. Hayes is the Bucs' starter on the weak side.

Idiots. Might not matter if they settle this labor dispute, the way things are going, there won't be enough players in the NFL to have a season.

Moron Britt:

ESPN AFC South blogger Paul Kuharsky confirms the Titans will not "reset" their draft approach based on Kenny Britt's arrest.
A.J. Green and Julio Jones are both in Nashville this week, but those visits were scheduled long before Britt's arrest. The Titans have bigger needs at quarterback and on defense. Britt's first-time suspension shouldn't be longer than 2-3 games.

Dez Bryant has settled with one of the jewelry stores to which he was indebted for $246,000. About another quarter Million to go.

Free agent RB Larry Johnson has settled a lawsuit from a woman who alleged he spit a drink on her in a bar in 2008 for $100,000.

Kenny's friends are just terrible!

-- Jack Britt: Kenny Needs Better Friends --
Sun Apr 17, 2011 --from FFMastermind.com
The Star Ledger reports Titans WR Kenny Britt’s father, Jack Britt, received a phone call at 1 a.m. last Wednesday morning when Britt was released from police custody. WR Kenny Britt told his father it was all a misunderstanding, something Jack Britt said he believes is true. But at the same time, Jack Britt is concerned. His son’s on-field performance — he had 42 receptions for 775 yards and nine touchdowns last season, despite missing four games with a hamstring injury — has shown he can be a dominant NFL receiver. But what happens when he isn’t playing football, and how might that affect his career? As the NFL Draft looms, will the Titans — under new HC Mike Munchak — continue to tolerate Britt’s behavior? Or will the organization be tempted to start over, using the No. 8 pick of the first round to take another top-flight receiver? So Jack Britt would like his son to part ways with the old teammate sitting passenger side in the Porsche, allegedly with marijuana in his pocket. The old neighborhood friend who just needs a little bit of money to get back on his feet before turning around and causing trouble again. After his spring break, Jack Britt said Kenny will return home to Nashville with one of his brothers in tow. Maybe that will help. Maybe then, things will be different. “I’m worried about him all the time,” Jack Britt said. “But my concern is not with Kenny, per se, it’s more with Kenny’s friends, and he knows that. He has too many friends with too much free time. He needs to be around more positive people.”

Report: Bucs will release Talib

The last month of the offseason apparently has shown the Buccaneers why they need to part ways with the ultra-talented, often-troubled CB Aqib Talib.

That’s the report from the St. Petersburg Times, which writes that, barring a last-minute changing of the mind, Tampa Bay will release Talib as soon as the NFL reopens for business.

Talib's timeline

Hovan rips Talib
Report: Talib NOT tested for gunshot residue
Report: Talib blames mother for shooting
Brinson: Felony arrest warrant issued for Talib

As you know, Talib has been charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after allegedly pistol-whipping the live-in boyfriend of his sister and then firing gunshots at him as he tried to flee the area in Garland, Texas.

And this is not the first time Talib has created drama around himself or his teammates. At the rookie symposium in 2008, he fought a teammate, and in 2009, he used his helmet to crack CB Torrie Cox in the head (it might or might not have been an accident, as Talib was going after T Donald Penn). He also agreed to a plea deal last year for a battery charge involving a cab driver – which led to a one-game suspension.

As the Times’ Rick Stroud writes, “As far as the Bucs are concerned, the outcome of the (latest) case won't matter. They know Talib at the least faces a long league suspension. The Bucs have reached a point where they believe Talib's talent no longer justifies the trouble he generates. They believe it's only a matter of time before he runs afoul of the rules again. That's why general manager Mark Dominik made it clear last week that the Bucs have altered their draft plans to include selecting a cornerback.”

As some would say, it’s probably about time Tampa Bay came to that conclusion.

Albert, you sly dog:

Albert Haynesworth was indicted Tuesday on a misdemeanor sexual abuse charge stemming from an incident in February.

After dining at the W Hotel in Washington, Haynesworth allegedly "grabbed and caressed" his waitress' breast. Her hands were full, so she granted Haynesworth's request to slip his credit card into her shirt. Upon receiving the green light, Haynesworth apparently stole second base. A conviction could result in up to 180 days in jail and a fine of up to $1,000.

Buccaneers | Have yet to discuss Aqib Talib Thu May 5, 11:07 AM

Tampa Bay Buccaneers head coach Raheem Morris said during a radio interview that the team has yet to discuss the future of troubled CB Aqib Talib. 'No, we have not talked about that. That has not taken place. We will, but that time has not come yet,' Morris said.

rotoworld,

Aqib Talib was officially indicted Friday morning on felony charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The next step is to schedule hearings then a trial, where Talib could face 2-20 years in prison if convicted of firing multiple shots at his sister's boyfriend. If he's found not guilty, it's not hard to imagine coach Raheem Morris going to bat for him in the Bucs front office. Considering his history, Talib will face NFL discipline regardless of the outcome.

The News-Times in Miami reports that Colts RB Javarris James was arrested Thursday night for marijuana possession in Fort Myers, Florida.
The charge is a misdeamanor. NFL players are obviously smoking, or at least possessing, plenty of marijuana while lockout rules prohibit personal-conduct suspensions. That doesn't mean they won't go into effect after a new CBA. James, 23, was signed off the Redskins' practice squad last October and scored six fluky touchdowns as a short-yardage back. He didn't have a bright NFL future to begin with, and the arrest certainly won't help. Source: Miami News Times

Nothing like helping management out with their decisions. With Addai hurt at the end of the season and Donald brown a waste of a jersey, James led the teams in rushing TD's last year. Two rookies drafted.......james is history!
