NFL Network: Frank Gore OUT for the season

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora is reporting that Frank Gore will miss the remainder of the season with a hip injury.

Analysis: This one comes out of nowhere, as Gore was able to return to the game for a carry before leaving for good and coach Mike Singletary gave no indication that the injury was serious. We'd wait for team confirmation before we cut Gore in non-keeper leagues, but this news further solidifies Brian Westbrook's spot atop the waiver wire. Touchdown heavy leaguers should consider adding Anthony Dixon as well.

Devestating for the title hopes of many teams. Hope you have a Thomas Jones or a Fred Jackson to cover, because you arent low enough on the waiver wire to get Westbrook.

Sucks seriously. Gore is such a gamer, I knew it was serious when he said he couldn't go back in...........

I got Gore in virtually every league I am in this year, but no Westbrook cuff.........:shake:

OUCH!!!!

The 49'ers are looking like the smart ones now for signing the ailing, not so ailing anymore, Westbrook. Good to see Dixon getting some game time too.

F^^K Gore i knew he couldn't go an entire season with out missing some games, i dumped him faster than a bad habit and grabbed Buffalo RB Fred Jackson, this will be the last time i ever draft Gore or any other 49er except LB Patrick Willis.

Handcuffs are great if you've got the right one. I'm sure it's useless to attempt to snag Westbrook from the bottom of the waiver wire.

The rotoworld view,

Brian Westbrook carried the ball 23 times for 136 yards and one touchdown in the 49ers 27-6 blowout win over Arizona in Week 12.

Westbrook and Anthony Dixon split carries for the first two drives following Frank Gore's early game injury, but the team handed the rock to Westbrook for the remainder of the game and he rewarded them with a big performance. Taking full advantage of the gaping running lanes provided to him by his offensive line, Westbrook flashed some of his vintage juking ability and didn't seem to tire after handling a full load. News that Frank Gore is out for the season makes him a must add in all formats. That being said, you would be hard pressed to start him as more than a flex in Week 13 against a Packers' defense giving up the third fewest fantasy points to opposing running backs.

rotoworld,
49ers placed Frank Gore (fractured hip) on injured reserve, ending his season.

The injury isn't expected to threaten Gore's 2011 season, but the 49ers won't know for sure until all of his medical tests come back this week. Gore will turn 28 next May as he prepares to enter the final year of his contract. Depending on Anthony Dixon's performance in a five-game window as Brian Westbrook's backfield partner, the 49ers may elect to address the position in next year's draft. Gore's Dynasty value has taken a significant blow.
