The Cornhuskers received the probation and a fine of nearly $40,000 basically because nearly 500 athletes were given supplemental books and supplies contray to ncaa rules. It sounds like making a mountain over a mole hill to me.
The NCAA is protective of their brand, the kids they could realyl care less about; but ensuring they make money, that is the important thing. So they will always be over the top with punishments....
Some sort of governing body has to be in place to ride heard over the $$ making programs but the ncaa makes what seems like some bone headed moves in too many instances. Who'd you rather be shed of Sarge, the ncaa or the BCS commision?
I would dump the NCAA first, they have a greater negative impact on the kids than the BCS. The BCS is just a joke created by the NCAA on people with good common sense.
I've read that the president of the ncaa is no longer against a limited playoff system to crown a national champion each season while keeping the current bowl system in place. Any interest out there for a very limited four team or maybe eight team playoff using the current bowls as part of that structure? A playoff just has to be coming at some point and I'd like to see it in place sooner rather than later.
