In a league with such a strict salary cap system in place, I don't think NFL teams even really blink at paying performance-based bonuses. There's so much profit out there that it's not a factor like it would be in baseball, for example.
Yet every few years there are players that make that type of manipulation.
And in other years there are the complaints about owners who disregard their fans to save $ or fail to invest in the team because they know the fan base will still be there.
What a travesty considering this league is littered with wife beaters, rapers, and a murderer or two. (and I am a Dog lover)
For all of the above, Vick included, I think if the legal system sets them free, the should be able to work. If and NFL team is willing to hire them, so be it
Personally, I would make it more than a drug violation. Taking drugs is something you do to yourself. Forcing an animal to fight to the death is something you do to an animal that has no choice in the matter.
Of cource, I wouldn't have suspended him until the law ran it's course and a conviction was made.
Please give an example for the "manipulative player" comment? I'm trying and failing to recall any incident that falls into that category.
Okay, fine. As soon as he is charged levy a suspension pending a conviction (effective immediatly). Don't come back 2 or 3 years later with a "Holier than Thou" adding on more. If you do not want the courts to interfere with your refereeing system, You better not be interfering with their system of punishment.
He served his time and should be eligible to play if fit and can find a job
Vick wasn't that player before going to prison, I seriously doubt he became that player after leaving prison. It will take him most of this season, at least, just to get back close to being the player he was, if he can get back to that level.
