-- Rashard Mendenhall Confused? --
Tue May 3, 2011 --from FFMastermind.com
AP reports RB Rashard Mendenhall has created a stir with comments made on his official Twitter page regarding Osama bin Laden's death. The Pittsburgh Steelers' running back on Monday tweeted: "What kind of person celebrates death? It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side ... " Mendenhall didn't hold back, even making a reference to the Sept. 11 attacks, tweeting: "We'll never know what really happened. I just have a hard time believing a plane could take a skyscraper down demolition style." The Steelers felt compelled to act. On Tuesday, team president Art Rooney II released a statement. "I have not spoken with Rashard, so it is hard to explain or even comprehend what he meant with his recent Twitter comments. The entire Steelers organization is very proud of the job our military personnel have done and we can only hope this leads to our troops coming home soon."

Yeah, I saw that. Mendenhall must have watched all those conspiracy theory youtube videos regarding the twin towers. I saw some of them that suggested that the buildings were wired to explode, and that you can see the devil's face in the clouds of smoke. You can see anything you want if you slow the film down slow enough.

Yet another twitter blunder by an athlete.

The part of his twitter on judgements by man were spot on, but he prolly should have just shared that with his friends and not to the world on twitter.

Rashard Mendenhall Clarifies his Twitter Comments --
Wed May 4, 2011 --from FFMastermind.com
ESPN reports RB Rashard Mendenhall on Wednesday posted a blog entry apologizing for and trying to clarify his controversial tweets regarding Osama bin Laden's death. The Pittsburgh Steelers running back created a stir with comments made on his official Twitter page Monday after news of bin Laden's death broke. "What kind of person celebrates death?" he wrote. "It's amazing how people can HATE a man they have never even heard speak. We've only heard one side..." He tried to clarify those comments Wednesday. "This controversial statement was something I said in response to the amount of joy I saw in the event of a murder. I don't believe that this is an issue of politics or American pride; but one of religion, morality, and human ethics," he wrote. After quoting a bible verse, he wrote: "I wasn't questioning Bin Laden's evil acts. I believe that he will have to face God for what he has done. I was reflecting on our own hypocrisy. During 9/11 we watched in horror as parts of the world celebrated death on our soil. Earlier this week, parts of the world watched us in horror celebrating a man's death." He apologized later in the posting and said he was just trying to "generate conversation." "I apologize for the timing as such a sensitive matter, but it was not meant to do harm," he wrote. "I apologize to anyone I unintentionally harmed with anything that I said, or any hurtful interpretation that was made and put in my name. It was only meant to encourage anyone reading it to think."

He showed an obvious lack of understanding about Osama Bin Laden. We knew a good deal about his opinions and justifications for his terrorism.

This is very similar to the exchange between Christopher Hitchens and rapper Mos Def on Bill Maher's show a while back. Mos Def believed that because he came from the black community where false police reports and charges are leveled against people routinely he doesn't trust the media to tell him about Bin Laden. He, like Mendenhall, showed a basic lack of understanding about who Bin Laden was and what Al Qaeda's goals were.

It may not be politically correct to say it but I think this is sometimes an unfortunate aspect of the black community. What I mean by that is that there is so much distrust and paranoia that it causes some in that community to distrust everything they hear from official news outlets. That in turn leads to apathy... why look up information on Bin Laden if you distrust the source of that information?

I do think Mendenhall has a point about celebrating death, but that's about it.

There's no question that he's right about the "celebration of death," and I think we all kind of agree with him on that point. It really is a strange feeling when you are relieved that another man has died. We all knew it had to be done, and we all agree with it, but it's over now. Time to stop celebrating and focus on the future.

Mendy was a bit off though when he goes conspiracy theory on us. Come on, man!

I have no problem with the celebration of his death at all. Where I think Mendenhall was spot on is the point I feel he was trying to make on judgements by men on man. I celebrate this mans death and leave his forever status to God.

Hey, I was celebrating when this happened. I am not proud of that though. He does have a point in that it is somewhat hypocritical to celebrate this death, and mourn and complain on our losses.

Now, that being said, it is in no way equal. What we lost was unforgivable. Add to that I would say his death was not just to atone for those lost lives, but for all the lives he was planning to take in the future as well.

I also agree, we got nothing on what punishment is coming to him now.....

Birdman, they celebrate our deaths all the time, with far more reverance than our people did the night Bin Laden died. I have no problem with it being our youth on TV doing the celebrating for a change. Obviously you do, but its those differences that make our country great.

Now as far as Mendenhall, sorry, but no one outside his family would care if he wasnt a NFL runner. Ive never thought Mendenhall was an intelligent person, and his use for me ends at toting the rock.

I'll spare you my conspiratorial opinions but you have to admit...

For a country that saves whales, mourns the death of trees and persecutes litterers it seems odd that we would celebrate the death of a human being.

Murder is no cause for celebration even if it is Satan himself.
