McNabb out vs Saints

FOXSports.com reports that Eagles QB Donovan McNabb, cracked rib, will not play next week at home against the Saints.

Is this a make or break opportunity for Kolb? Is this his 1 week starting and not having to look over his shoulder.

I thought I heard some of the talking heads yesterday saying something about Vick playing as early as week 3 - is that right?

yes, Vick can play week 3, but it would be unlikely that he would get to start at QB if McNabb is still out.

I don't like to see any player injured, but for Kolb's sake, I do like that he is going to at least get to work with the first team in practice this time before taking the field, rather than being thrown out there unexpectedly in the stupid way that he was thrown out there last year.

The issue is they placed Vick on inactive status. So he can't practice with team or be in meetings. Had they kept him on active roster...the week three start might have been.

But Vick isn't a real starting Qb...so it doesn't matter. Don't forget as well Philly has early Bye...which helps McNabb alot here. Week 4 bye is a big help there.

Philly has Saints then Chiefs...then Bye. If the defense can hold the explosive Saints in check...they should be fine.

Could be. He is coming to the end of his rookie contract. Plus they did not extend McNabb, but only restructured. So they need to decide quickly if Kolb is the future, or extend McNabb..or is Vick...gulp....yuck....is.

I forgot the week 4 bye! That is great news! My other QB is Campbell and he can get healthy at home vs. The rams next week and on the road in wk 3 vs the Lions!

Thing is, if McNabb doesn't get back quick, Vick will be coming in some on offense. And if the Eagles look good over the next couple weeks with Kolb and Vick, trouble could be just around the corner week 5 if there is an offensive struggle.

All that said, Reid is saying that no decision has been made regarding week 2 for McNabb
The question about whether Eagles QB Donovan McNabb, who fractured a rib in Sunday’s win over the Carolina Panthers, will play this week isn’t likely to be answered anytime soon. Eagles coach Andy Reid addressed McNabb’s status at his weekly news conference Monday, saying the situation will be evaluated on a day-by-day basis. Reid indicated McNabb’s fractured rib can’t get any worse, so it’s a matter of how McNabb can function with the injury.

Reid said the Eagles “won’t put him out there if he can’t function.” But that won’t be determined until later in the week.

“He is sore,” Reid said. “He’s going to try and do everything he possibly can to play this week. We’ll see how that goes. But he’s staying optimistic and everything about that. “

Vick involved in the game plan is OK, as a straight-up starter he wont salvage the Eagles season and all that talent will be helpless/useless if Vick is under center.

New reports in say that Reid said today that there appears to be no additional risk of injury to the ribs. His playing status as early as Sunday will be determined by how much pain that McNabb is able to play with.

I don't think Reid wants to see that happen. It's too easy for controversy to develop of the team does well without him.

I've conducted a clinical study and have discovered that Kolb, in fact, is pure crap. Also anyone thinking (wishing) that Vick puts on a Superman cape and shakes off an NFL career of rust to become the Eagles starting quarterback must also know where to find all the kind bud.

I said it before on Jamal Lewis; Prison doesn't improve a player's ability. Vick wasn't that good before going to federal pound me in the azz prison. The thought of Vick taking over and not looking back is compelling fiction. But it is still fiction. This is and will be McNabb's team.

they could anesthetize the area as well... i think it might be smarter for him to wait till after the bye...

I would like to see that too. I just wonder how reckless they and he will be with his health. He has proven to be one tough QB. Cowboys and Giants appear to be ready to roll.

I've been offered either Ricky Williams (I'm a R. Brown owner) or Leftwich for Michael Vick...which one would you do if any? I was surprised at how many carries Williams got this week.

Depends on your situation at backup quarterback. I'm not a big fan of Sticky Ricky. Because of the sports media speculative orgy surrounding Vick you could squeeze that guy for more value if you act soon.
