McNabb gets 5 year, $78 million extension

The Washington Redskins and quarterback Donovan McNabb have agreed to a contract extension.

McNabb's agent, Fletcher Smith, told The Associated Press that the extension is worth $78 million over five years, with $40 million of the deal guaranteed. A source told ESPN NFL Insider Michael Smith, who first reported the agreement, that McNabb's contract could be worth $88 million if incentives in the contract are reached.

McNabb, who will turn 34 later this month, agreed to an extension just two weeks after he was benched at the end of a loss to the Lions because coach Mike Shanahan said the quarterback didn't have a grasp of the team's 2-minute offense.

Donovan McNabb earned a $40 million extension from the Redskins, despite being in the midst of one of his worst statistical seasons.

Shanahan later cited McNabb's ailing hamstrings as one of the reasons he pulled McNabb in the final minutes of the loss.

Smith told the AP that the benching had no effect on negotiations and McNabb is "happy to be a Redskin."

Last week, McNabb said he was able to clear the air in talks with Shanahan and offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan. He said he was satisfied with what he heard.

"Yes, I'm satisfied," McNabb said last week. "You get what you ask for, and after that you put it behind you and move on."

McNabb, who was traded by the Eagles to the Redskins before the season, faces Philadelphia on Monday night for the second time this season. He led Washington to a 17-12 victory at Philadelphia on Oct. 3.

Thats alot of money for a guy who needs Grossman to run the two minute offense

Just more proof Dan Snyder will throw money at anything.

Does this mean Shanahan has less control than everyone perceived? McNabb is better than what some teams deal with for years (like the 49ers), but he's already been pulled once for lousy play.

I think this means Shanny can run the team, but Snyder runs the show. I dont doubt he would fire Shanny's ass in a heartbeat if the thought he could get an even better coach.

Well, it isn't like McNabb was playing defense. When your situation is that obvious, you'll throw picks.

The drive right after WAS just scored on it's second consecutive drive to make it 35-14 in the 2nd Quarter McNabb fumbled the ball, recovered it himself. On the very next play threw in INT on his own 30 yd line. Vick comes in and scores to make it 42-14.

Had McNabb not thrown that TD and rather kept the ball for field position or even scored it's a different ball game. 35-21 or 38-21 at half time is still more manageable than 45-14.

Also, the 3 and outs killed them. He couldn't even keep his offense on the field long enough for the DEF to get a drink.

I'm back :)
um, the first int was a tip by santana moss on a catchable ball. i agree it made things a lot worse, but is that your whole argument? because clearly here the D was the major problem

Clearly the major problem was they made Michael Vick angry and he broke his foot off in their ass. He made them pay for every single ounce of pain he went through with the ribs.
