Marshall a Seahawk?

  • The Denver Post reports veteran Seattle Seahawks WR Nate Burleson tweeted the following last week: "I heard about WR Brandon Marshall possible coming hear but I won't believe til I see it. He is a monster though!" Whether Burleson's post was inside information from Seahawks headquarters or merely a player discovering the Internet rumor mill, a Marshall-to-Seattle deal has a certain logic for both sides. For the Broncos, it could partially correct the most head-scratching trade of the HC Josh McDaniels era so far, the one in which he shipped the club's first-round draft pick this year (No. 14) to Seattle for a second-round pick last year (No. 37), which he used to select CB Alphonso Smith. Smith had a tough rookie season, losing the nickel back job first to veteran CB Ty Law and then to undrafted rookie CB Tony Carter. Meanwhile, the Seahawks ran a prosaic offense featuring Burleson and 32-year-old WR T. J. Houshmandzadeh as primary targets. So there would be symmetry in a swap that sends Marshall to HC Pete Carroll's new shop and returns to the Broncos their own first-round pick, as if recovered by police after a robbery. The Seahawks would get a Pro Bowl wideout and the Broncos would have two picks in the first 14, including the Bears' pick, either No. 10 or 11, which they hold from the QB Jay Cutler trade. Of course, this would make the trade effectively Marshall for Smith, which doesn't look very good at the moment, but neither does a first-round pick for Smith, which is already done.

Nice post! That would be a great pick up for the Hawks.

No it wouldn't :nonoblue:

The Seahawks desparetly need a LT, RB, and pssibly a QB of the future in the first 2 rounds. They don't have a 3rd rd pick. If they traded back from 6 to 10 and got Marshall it would be good, but WR is not a weakness on this team

WR is not a weakness on this team

Are you serious?[/QUOTE]

Yes, when you compare it to the Oline and RBs. When the opposing D's can stop the RB in his tracks with 3 DL and 1 LB (4 in the box), and the QB is on his back before the WRs can take 2 steps they cannot be considered a weakness

yeah, I have to agree with AD and others, there are more pressing needs than WR in Seattle. However, getting a WR of Marshall's caliber would be a nice grab for any team, not matter if it's a critical need or not.

That is really my point, if they are able to get Marshall, it would bolster a weak receiving core. I agree there are needs elsewhere but Wr is one of many.

I don't think he said WR was a weakness, just that Marshall would be an improvement to almost any team. To give up a RB and/or LT for Marshall would be a horrible move. You must be a Cards or Rams fan to hope for this to happen

A QB and or a RB is desperately needed and has been for couple years at both positions, there has not been a RB worth a darn since Shawn Alexander IMO

The OL could use some bolstering also

Maybe use Marshall as trade bait

This isn't FF, I don't see Seattle trading for him just to trade him again.

I am pretty new to the football world, and I am sure what I have come up with screams newbie but why not get Marshall in exchange for the 14th pick, and pick up OKUNG, DAVIS or CAMPBELL with pick 1.6 and then pick up Tony Pike or Colt McCoy with pick 2.8? You would have a stud WR, a NFL ready QB and a Franchise OT to protect the QB. Then draft a stud RB in 2011.

A legitimate option in my opinion.

I agree with most of the Seattle folks here, that the dire need in Seattle is at OL, and Rb is issue as well.

However, I am not a Burleson fan. Never have been. Not sure what the issue with Housh was.

But you are not going to see any team take two OL men in the same round, regardless of how many draft picks they have. I also don't think any of the Qbs this year......are really worth a high first round pick.

Rb is an option...but historically you can get solid Rbs later.

Like Marshall or not, having him on one side Burleson on other, and Housh working the middle would be pretty damn good for Seattle. Add Carlson at Te....assuming they fix the O-line and let him out, and they would be hard to stop.

Add OT in first round, and go OL in later picks...and you look solid. Rb talent is okay in this draft, and can be gotten later. For that matter, there are FAs or potential FAs that would be a solid fit...( Thomas Jones comes to mind here...).

I'm confused. Isn't Marshall a UFA? If so, there's no need to trade for him, or somehow NOT address o-line and RB.

Also, aren't we talking about one of the richest owners in the league going into an uncapped year? I'd grab every stud I could get my hands on. Why gamble on rookies in the draft when you can just spend and win now. You'll have to front load these guys to make most of their money in the first year, but that's ok. That's what WAS and DAL will be doing as well. Take Marshall, pick up Thomas Jones, draft a QB (even if you have to move up to do it - I think Claussen is the real deal and the top QB, but whoever you think the #1 QB is) and then buy or draft in the second a LT and a OL. That's just from the hip. The only real point I was trying to make is this is the year to spend if you have it.
