From rotoworld,
Peyton Manning won his record-setting fourth NFL Most Valuable Player award on Saturday.

Only one other player, Brett Favre, has won the award three times. Manning led the Colts to a 14-2 record, the No. 1 seed in the AFC, and an eighth consecutive playoff berth. He previously won the award in 2003, 2004, and last season. Manning threw for 4,500 yards and 33 touchdowns, while completing a career-high 68.8 percent of his passes this season. Jan. 9 - 9:41 am et

I'm sure P.Manning deserves the award but only 7 1/2 votes for D.Brees is an insult.

Sounds like a popularity contest, overall stats are close in comparison except QB rating which D.Brees had a 109.6 to P.Manning 99.9

IMO D.Brees deserves this honor, put up some great stats with lesser overall talent surrounding him.

Manning deserved it but I'm amazed that Aaron Rodgers didn't get a single vote. Guy had a great season............

Congrats to Manning, but I agree that Brees deserved more consideration. As was said, he did more with less total talent.

huh?? Sorry, in the past this may have been true, but if you watch the Saits they have as many offensive weapons, especially in the passing game as any team in the league. Brees has plenty of talent around him, may have more than Manning for a change.

This wasn't close b/c it should not have been. Manning won in a landslide like he should have.

I too felt Brees should have received more votes but thought I may be pulling a Homer. I'm glad to see that many of you felt the same.

If Brees has just as much talent around him and the overall stats are very simular then it has to be a popularity contest Right ??

I like the Louisiana born Manning as much as the next guy but there is no way he deserved over 7 times as many votes as Brees.

IMO, Manning owns this award and probably will for a few more years. This is not a popularity contest. Manning won because he does more. Let me support that. Brees and Manning have similiar stats on the surface and if that is all you look at, the vote should be closer. However, Manning is also the offensive coordinator. The adjustments that Manning makes on the field as a reaction to defensive coverage is what sets him apart. If Manning is in a close statistical battle with anyone for the MVP, he will always win until some of these other QBs start doing what he does at the line of scrimmage.
Also, I have to disagree that Brees has less talent to work with. Manning played the whole year with 2 WRs most of you didn't even know. They let Harrison go and expected Gonzo lite to take over. When he got hurt, teams thought they could just focus on Clark and Wayne. Manning worked with Garcon and Collie and made them what they are now. Also the running game is damn near worthless for the Colts. At least the Saints have Thomas and Bell and Reggie isn't a bad option to pass to either. We have Joe and that's it. I know, I know. We drafted Brown, blah, blah, blah. He's not anywhere near good enough yet and honestly, I'm not sure he's better than Mike Hart.
I like Brees a bunch, but he hasn't done more with less and hasn't seperated himself statistically from Manning and he just doesn't have the responsibility that Manning has. I'm a homer, but with the exception of the more with less arguement, these are facts not opinions and that is why Manning is the MVP and probably will be a couple more times before it's all said and done.

I can't argue with Manning getting the award this year, if not him, it has to be Chris Johnson though, IMO. Dude just rushed for over 2000 yards and set all kinds of franchise records.

As for Manning, he lost Marvin Harrison this year, but had a nice replacement in Anthony Gonzales. Woops, lost him too! No matter the receiver, Manning hasn't missed a beat, and he is virtually the offensive coordinator as well. That offense, unlike other quarterbacks in the league, belongs to Peyton Manning.

I agree and actually felt like the MVP race should've come down to Manning and Johnson. Johnson just plays for too sh*tty of a team. I don't agree that the teams success should factor in, but the reality of it is that it does. I wonder if it would have made a difference if he had broke Dickerson's rushing record. I think because the Titans sucked he still wouldn't have won it, but the arguement would've been alot better and certainly justified.

Who carries the title of offensive coordinator for the Colts anyway?? It never dawned on me until this thread that I have no clue.

Tom Moore (The old White haired guy you always see Manning talking to on the sideline) is the Colt's Sr. Offensive Coordinator. I think the Sr. title for him and Howard Mudd has to do with their "consultant" arrangement. Both guys retired but were hired as consultants because there was some goofy nfl retirement details that basically forced them to retire. Anyway, short answer is, Tom Moore is our OC.

The Titans got off to a bad start, but they didn't suck by any means. Kerry Collins sucked. Without him, that was a playoff team this year. I get what you are saying though

Peyton Manning is the Albert Puljos of football, both have the talent to win MVP every year. Numbers are for the Offensive Player of the Year, which went to CJ and rightfully so. To me Brees should of won the MVP.
