I figure if the Scioto Canal is still working, they would barge him through Mobile up the Tenn-Tom Waterway to the Tennessee and Ohio. Or they could barge him straight up the mighty ol' Mississip.' A more circuitous route would be to take the Intracoastal Waterway around Florida and then up the Atlantic Coast to New York and the NY Barge Canal to access the Great Lakes where at Chicago they would then access the Mississippi system via the Chicago Sanitary & Ship Canal and Illinois River.
