Local League Dilemma (Is this Collusion?)

My live draft is today and last night I get a call from a guy in the league wanting to make a last minute deal.

It's a standard scoring 10 team league where we get 1 keeper at no cost each year. Here is the dilemma.... This guy has Cam Newton and Ray Rice. For whatever reason he really wants Cam. He has the #10 pick I have #3....basically he has the biggest man crush on Cam that I have ever seen and asks me to do this deal out of fear someone will scoop Cam out of spite: (which could happen)

He keeps Ray Rice and asks me to draft Newton at 3 then trade Newton and a draft pick bump to him for Ray Rice. I know how dumb this sounds to everyone including me but my question is do the Outlaws feel this is collusion? I know the guy with the first pick is wanting Rice bad.

Man this is tempting.

I don't see it as collusion as long as the compensation is fair. He gets his guy (Cam) and gets some added value (draft pick bump) for Rice instead of just keeping Cam and tossing Rice back into the draft. The key to me is making sure the draft pick bump is enough compensation to keep the rest of the league from crying foul.

Agree with Miller. It all comes down to balancing the deal to the satisfaction of the rest, which could be more than you want to pay. Who else might be there at three?

It does sound fishy when you lay out the whole plan, but if it just goes down as unrelated events then I don't see anyone complaining.

You take Cam, have second thoughts and try to deal him to a Cam lover for a legitimate #3.

But really...is this trade really advantageous for YOU?

You're giving up your 1:3 AND, lets say, your 3:3 to get a guy that can normally be drafted with just a 1:3.

Frankly, I think it would be pretty safe in a 10 team 1 keeper league for dude to keep Rice and trust that Cam will be there at 1:10...or even 2:3

The guy only asked for my 5th rd (have 2) for his 6th which is what makes the deal so tempting and possibly collusive.

Keepers will be:

Foster
McCoy
Lynch
Brees
Rodgers
Brady
A. Johnson
McFadden (me)
P. Manning
Newton/Rice

At #3 I would be looking at Megatron, Matthews maybe Stafford. I think CJ2k and MJD are the 1st 2 picks

I really only feel its collusion if you feel like your cheating.....I don't think its any different than you drafting Newton normally who in a keeper league could be a #3 pick depending on scoring and then trading him for Ray Rice(including picks)...on the other hand if this is pre-arranged I could see how your league-mates might feel like this is wrong. DMC and Rice would be lethal though....:)

Can trades be done predraft? If I was him I would keep cam and trade rice and get better then a 5th round pick for him. Make the deal predraft for even a 5th round pick and it's not collusion it's him getting value for a player he would have gotten no compensation for by throwing him back. You will work out ahead this way as u will keep ur 1.03 where u may take McFadden or someone better if they fall.

No trades predraft are allowed which is part of the reason why under the table deals such as this are not totally uncommon. We also just voted in a rule change which allows for us go only trade a total of 3 draft picks for the entire year.

imo this is collusion but if it is common practice in your league then it may be ok. Cam and a 5th round pick for Rice isnt a totally lopsided deal. Do the deal in the 4th or 5 th round of the draft and people may not even question it.

Yeah I didn't really feel good about the deal after sleeping on it, and I think I've been more or less convinced that to make the deal fair enough to not be collusion would swing it out of my favor.

Who knows though....a return to douchebaggery might be fun :dunno:
