Kansas City RB Situation - Charles & Hillis

Charles is coming back from injury and Hillis finds himself in a new home after a disastrous 2011. There is only 1 football though and in just 2010 these two finished as the 3rd and 4th rated fantasy backs in the league. So how is it going to work out in KC this year? Who is the back to own?

It's Charles' to lose. But I see them using Hillis to keep Charles healthy which most likey will mean that he will get a chunk of the redzone carries.

Hillis is the much better, hands down value IMO. He'll get the red zone work, and can be had later in the draft. He also has a shot at being the true workhorse back when Charles breaks down.

That depends on your scoring. I am in a league where yardage gets more points than scores. Scores are only 2pts. So the back that gets the most yardage is the back that has the most value.

I think KC wants to get back to what they did back when Thomas Jones was just in. Have Hillis pound the ball, and beat up on defenses, then bring in Charles for change of pace, passes out of the backfield and such. Both Thomas and Charles had great years when this type of offense was used. It keeps the wear and tear off of Charles and allows him to be explosive all season.

So depending on scoring, both could be solid choices. In PPR i would much favor charles. In standard scoring, with Tds 6 pts, I think Hillis could be a solid #2 rb.

Here is the problem with the ppr theory.....Hillis has better hands than Charles IMO....and I have to think he is better blocker as well meaning that having Hillis in on passing downs may be something that ends up surprising many.

For where Hillis is being drafted, I think he may be worth a gamble. Charles, I won't touch. Has much more upside, but coming off his injury and having Hillis in town taking redzone and possibly cutting into receiving numbers scares me too much to invest the pick it would need to get him.

Mostly agree with Miller here but there will be a transition period for Hillis.

I believe Charles is still viewed by the Chiefs as the "Darren Sproles" in the back field and it will be he that gets the most touches/passes early on. Hillis will be slow to evolve but will be the back to own by mid-season.
