New York Daily News reports New York Jets RB Leon Washington said he still does not know if he will report to training camp on time or hold out because of the unhappiness with his contract.

No where close to a new contract.

Bad decision IMO. Get to camp, become an important part of a RBBC, have a good season, get a better contract in 2010. Simple............

Should have qualified. Get a better contract when your existing contract runs out. Sorry, but if you signed a contract, no team is obligated to give you a better one. If they choose to and lock you up for a longer period, great. If they choose not to, get your ass on the field and fulfill the terms of the contract you were happy to have when you signed in the first place.

Also, he has a chance this year to be a bigger part of the offense, not just a 3rd down, COP type of back. A perfect opportunity to show other teams he can be a starter. Won't happen if he's not on the field...............

He really has no right to complain.....he should just STFU and get to camp, play his contract, test FA....

agreed..he's been at this awhile now...he needs to just be happy in the role he's in. It's clear the Jets aren't interested in paying him.

I could buy into this if there was a similar uproar when the team voids a contract by making salary cap cuts.

Everyone knows the rules going in. Players generally sign longer contracts because they get upfront money that they don't have to pay back if they under perform and are released. If they want the option of renegotiating every year, sign a one year contract, perform and then sign another contract for more money. Otherwise, be prepared for your team not renegotiating with you every year............
