This was a BS move by the Colts, and the fans are giving them exactly what they deserve. Polian's radio show had to be cut short do to being overrun with complaints and requests for ticket refunds.
Those that say the the fans should have no say in this quickly forget exactly who is making all of these people rich, from the owner, down to the equipment manager. It is the fans. Be it ticket sales, merchandise sales, or TV money that is directed toward advertising to the FANS.
And I don't for a second think this was Caldwell's call. Manning said before the game that he expected to play the full game, as long as it was competitive. The players were completely shocked by this, and vocally showing their displeasure after the fact (thank you Reggie Wayne for speaking your mind).
I think Management made this call, not before the game, but during the 3rd quarter. If Caldwell did plan this all along, and kept it from his players, good chance he burned some bridges in regards to trust.
and what a crappy way to introduce a rookie quarterback to the NFL. yank him off the practice squad, and throw him on the field, facing on of the top defenses in the league. Great confidence builder there.
