IDP: The Cowboys Put OLB Greg Ellis On The Trading Block?

The Cowboys have reportedly put OLB Greg Ellis on the trading block. It does appear The Cowboys are serious as they have sent Ellis home from camp. This move is usually a sign that a player is on the block and they don't want him to get injuried.

Greg Ellis, is an interesting story as he was a good down lineman. The Cowboys changed D and wanted to move Ellis to OLB. Ellis didn't like the idea at first and vocalized it. He adapted and made the move. Ellis may be better off if he gets traded to a team where he is part of a four man front. A trade hasn't occurred yet but IDPers should note that the starting spot is likely to go to 2007 first-rounder Anthony Spencer.

The Cowboys would save $5.6 million under the salary cap if they released or traded Greg Ellis. Analysis: Naturally, this could go towards an extension for Demarcus Ware $1.5 million of Ellis' 2009 salary is guaranteed, but his cap charge right now is $6.25 million. Expect a transaction of some sort by early next week.

For those of you who have been wondering Ware the money will come from.

You may want to check your IDP leagues on Spencers listing. He was drafted as DLine and if he is still listed as such you may get yourself a real bargain. I think the MFL leagues changed him to LB in the middle of last season, not sure though. Worth having a look at just in case

yes MFL has him as a LB and has had him as one since before last season even started. He might be ok in deep leagues that arent tackle heavy or if the league awards big points for sacks, but hes mostly ww fodder at this point imo.

Maybe in the Kiddie Leagues. I'm in a 32 team and a 16 team Dynasty/Keeper league that start 5 IDP's every week. We pay a lot of attention to news like this

I play in 14-16 team IDP leagues that start 11 IDPs a week. Mostly comprised of some solid posters from FBG. Hardly kiddie leagues, and Ellis is on waivers in those. Its just my opinion but i think hes nearing the end. Its cool if you dont agree but dont make the mistake of believing I dont play against elite competition. Between fftoday, fflivewire, and FBG I play in 11 shark leagues including dynastys vs many of the staff at FBG. Good luck with Ellis he did have 12 sacks in 07 so maybe hes got a season or two in the tank but if he goes to a place like NE that would likely use him as a rotational 3-4 OLB, i see very limited upside and probably more desirable LBs on waivers

Point taken and apology offered.

Now, how can you say that in leagues that roster 100 DL and 150 LB that there is no value in a DL that is listed as LB ?? That was my point on Spencer, I drafted him that way as a rookie but got caught when MFL did that association with the other site to set their positions. There are still some sites out there that have him listed as DL

Nice to see another IDP guy around. You'll see me as Chasers Dawgs occasionally on the other sites you listed. Welcome Aboard. looking forward to some interesting IDP discussions from ya

because the value isnt in a DL listed as a LB its in a LB listed as a DL, at least in the leagues i play in which are more tackle heavy and less big play heavy. I only use MFL for the IDP leagues im in and they have him listed at LB. In my first post i did say that unless big points were awarded for sacks then Ellis was not very appealing. Hes getting old and will likely be a rotational player wherever he ends up. Dallas saves 5 or 6 mill against the cap by releasing him so its possible he gets released and re signs if he doesnt get a lot of interest in free agency. Now if you are playing in a 32 team IDP league that is not split into 2 conferances of 16 then anybody who laces up their cleats has some value and Ellis is no exception. Every year the Paris Lenons of 07 and the Dhani Jones of 08 are available on the ww around this time. Last year i cuffed ww fodder like N.Webster/Niko Koutouvides and came up with a starting MLB. These kinds of scenarios present themselves every season. This year would it surprise anybody to see L.Foote as the starting MLB in detroit. Many dropped him after Timmons emerged with the Steelers

Nice to meet ya. Im Little Big Head at rotoworld, thehuddle, fflivewire, fftoday, ffcafe, rtsports, thedanzone, and LBH at footballguys
