Has Flacco earned it yet?

so,
I am driving to work, and listen to Mike and Mike and hear where Flacco's agent says he deserves to be a top paid Qb.

Not saying I agree or disagree, need to dig some.

But what was said on the radio is impressive:
Same # of Superbowl wins as P.Manning
Same # of post season wins as P.Manning but in less years.

Never has been a top stats Qb, as the offense is tailored around Rice.

How do folks feel?

I thought he would fold a bit in the playoffs, but he did not. I can't come up with a compelling reason for him not to be paid like a top QB. His agent wants him to be THE top paid QB, though. I can't get behind that.

Tough call, in the playoffs he has literally as good as anybody as Phi points out.

Drew Brees money? The highest paid QB hasnot always translated to the Best QB.

I dunno, better than the Franchise Tag money, long term / 5-6 years? I should think a nice chunk of up front money.

He's earned a good payday, as was said, but I agree that he is not an "elite" QB. He's the product of a very good system and a good team. Put him on another team and he would not have the same results.

This doesn't answer your main question... but what I was thinking amidst several shows hitting on the topic was... what else are ya gonna do if you are the ravens. You have to give him whatever another team would. Clearly you cant just go out and get a great, or even good quarterback... o they are signing him... and probably will have to over pay, and almost certainly by too much. But you cant let dude go. That would be preposterous...

Yeah, he kind of has the upper hand in the negotiations. Plus, it would be bad PR to let the super bowl winning QB walk, even if there were options. No matter who you brought in, if they don't win it again, it would be a disaster.

If Flacco's Super Bowl victory is enough to make him the top paid QB then shouldn't every Raven get top pay for their position?

ALL the Raven's player agents are going to be singing the same song.

It's why there will never be another true dynasty in professional sports. Winning it all is grounds for demanding the moon and no team can afford to pay 40 world champions.

I wonder what Flacco (not his agent) thinks about the situation? Gee....you don't think maybe it's the AGENT looking for a big payday, do you?

The only sane thing to do in today's NFL INC. is to let these guys go seek their fortunes elsewhere as overpaid losers on desperate teams.

Flacco would look good in a Chiefs uniform.

tecki is kinda onto something here. it Will never happen, but i don't pay him 20 mil, he's good, maybe very good, but 20 mil good???? Nope! this contact will handcuff the ravens for life of the deal and he it's not good enough to carry the team on back over the haul.

I can agree with all of that... however... this is the league, the quarterback is too important and too constant (they perform at a regular-ish level and stay somewhat healthy for long periods) in such a day-to-day change of personnel environment, and if joe/agent wants to squeeze their (ravens) balls the ravens pretty much are going to and have to nut up

Draft the next Flacco? This may be a Qb driven league, but some offenses are set up to make it easy for the QB. I would add if you have a Rice and Pierce who is 75% or more of your offense, there is less pressure on the Qb. So if Flacco that good? Or is Rice and Pierce that good? I have nothing against Flacco, but he is not worth 15-20 Million a year. I would rather go get another Qb in draft or get a Mallet or Flynn and let Rice run the show.

The offense seemed a lot more balanced after Caldwell took over. So Flacco, Rice and Pierce all get to look good.

True, Caldwell seemed to have revitalized Boldin and Pitta as well.

and it would appear jacoby jones was "vitalized" - or at least knows how far flacco can heave it

This team does not win the Superbowl if Flacco is not the QB. Elite or not all he does is make the playoffs and win in the playoffs. He's never been a 4,000 yds/35 TD guy so I don't see him becoming the highest paid QB but he will get 18-20 million a yr. As far as being strapped, the Ravens have one of the best F.O. in football and a great cap guy. I am sure they will not screw themselves. Flacco is not going anywhere.

Remember Trent Dilfer....
