Gonzo Lite news

(nfl.com)Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez isn't where he wants to be yet in his recovery from last year's knee injury, which forced him from all but one game last season. But he's getting there. "I don't know if I'll be 100 percent ever again with my knee," Gonzalez said. "I know I'm pretty darn close. My speed is back."
Analysis: It appears like Gonzalez will be ready for the start of training camp, and that's a good sign. He has a lot to prove this year with the emergence of Pierre Garcon and Austin Collie behind Reggie Wayne and Dallas Clark, but QB Peyton Manning is fond of Gonzalez. We see Gonzalez as a sleeper in 2010 because he will fall in drafts, but he should still play a prominent role in the Colts' offense.

rotoworld,
Anthony Gonzalez is now being held out of Colts mandatory minicamp.

The team isn't commenting on injuries, so the reasoning for Gonzalez's absence is unclear. He missed all but one game in 2009 due to knee woes.

Healing up: Safety Bob Sanders insisted he's as healthy as he's been in a long time, and the Colts anticipate the vast majority of players who missed all or portions of the OTAs and minicamp being ready for training camp. That includes wide receiver Anthony Gonzalez, who was held out of the last few weeks of on-field work due to an injury issue the team refused to address. "He'll be fine," coach Jim Caldwell said. "Trust me."When pressed on the nature of Gonzalez's latest injury, Polian said it was "muscular," and not related to the injury to Gonzalez's right knee that forced him to miss virtually all of 2009.

Looks like Gonzo is going to be ready for training camp and this will continue to to be on the training camp battles everyone will be watching. In dynasty leagues, his value is very low and you may want to take a flyer on him at a bargain price before optimism starts to rise.

It is a dark and stormy night. Lightning flashes and strikes the steel rods atop the castle. Deep within the castle a small room lights up brightly. Gonzo Lite is .......... Alive!

The Colts coaching staff has promised Anthony Gonzalez a shot to compete with Pierre Garcon for the starting job opposite Reggie Wayne this summer.

Of course, this is a total pain in the a** for Fantasy Football Owners in redraft leagues. New hope for those keeper/dynasty leagues that have Gonzo lite around. Outside of Wayne all the rest could end up as 700 yard/5td guys including the TE Clark.Which doesn't make for strong # 2 WR candidates. Depending on who the D lets Manning get to on any given week these all could be feast and famine guys. 18+ points one week, 6 the next week. Wide Receiver By Committee anyone.

(TheHuddle) Indianapolis Colts WR Anthony Gonzalez said he will be given the opportunity to compete with WR Pierre Garcon for the No. 2 wide receiver job, reports Mike Chappell, of The Indianapolis Star. Analysis: All Gonzalez needs to do to get back into the competition is to get and stay healthy. So... um, yeah; good luck with that.

(Rotoworld) Anthony Gonazalez (knee) says he finally has his speed back. Analysis: Gonzalez impressed coach Jim Caldwell during OTAs in May, setting up a training camp battle with Pierre Garcon. But even if Gonzalez's speed is all the way back like he says, he'll have a hard time landing a starting gig. Garcon performed too well last season and Austin Collie looks like the real deal in the slot.

cbssports.com,
Head coach Jim Caldwell had some promising news for Colts fans. He said receiver Anthony Gonzalez, who missed all but the first quarter last season with a right knee injury, and safety Bob Sanders, who missed all but two games last year with knee and biceps injuries, are not expected to open practice on the physically unable to perform list. Gonzalez saw only limited work during the team's minicamps and went to Tennessee in July to work out exclusively with QB Peyton Manning and WR Austin Collie.

Analysis: The Colts are eager to get Gonzalez back in the WR mix after having to rely on a bunch of unknowns in 2009, mostly Pierre Garcon and Collie. As long as his knee holds up, Gonzalez has the chance to either feature opposite Reggie Wayne at wide receiver or work extensively in the slot. As long as Manning is under center, then that means good things. View Gonzalez as a late-round Fantasy sleeper on Draft Day.

-- Colts Injury Update - Anthony Gonzalez Dinged --
Sun Aug 8, 2010 --from FFMastermind.com
The Indianapolis Star reports Colts HC Jim Caldwell wasn't certain how much time OT Charlie Johnson might miss with his sprained foot. The same held true for OL Andy Alleman, who left Friday afternoon's practice early with a back injury. Other players held out of Saturday's work for undisclosed reasons were TE Dallas Clark, TE Colin Cloherty, DE Keyunta Dawson, DE Ervin Baldwin, WR Pierre Garcon, LB Clint Session and CB Brandon King. Veteran WR Anthony Gonzalez was unable to finish Saturday's workout. He spent the final portion on the sideline with a wrap around his left calf.

-- Anthony Gonzalez Reduced to a Backup WR & Punt Returner? --
Tue Sep 7, 2010 --from FFMastermind.com
The Indianapolis Star reports it appears the primary alignment at wideout for the Colts this week at Houston might be the same as it was during the Super Bowl loss to New Orleans: WR Reggie Wayne and WR Pierre Garcon on the outside, WR Austin Collie in the slot. That would leave WR Anthony Gonzalez as the interchangeable backup. Until then and perhaps even after that, he's choosing his words carefully. "All I wanted was an opportunity to compete,'' Gonzalez said. "That's it. That's what I was promised.'' The team's initial depth chart lists Gonzalez as its punt returner. "It's possible,'' he said. "I have no idea.''
