According to Pro Football Weekly, free agent WR Steve Smith (microfracture surgery) could start the 2011 season on the PUP list. Analysis: Positive reports about Smith's recovery from extensive knee surgery have been few and far between, and he admitted to concern about a loss of explosiveness a few weeks back. The Giants' selection of Jerrel Jernigan in the third round suggests they aren't counting on Smith to be an impact player in the slot this season. We won't be drafting Smith in 2011 fantasy leagues.

This is not good. He was off to a good start last year before getting hurt. With drafting Jerrel Jernigan, Steve Smith is probably done in New York. Hopefully it's not for his career.

He may be able to stay around a couple more years as a possession receiver type, but Id say his fantasy value days are probably over.

His fantasy value has always been that of a possession receiver.....I think your giving up on him way too early. He may be very limited this season, but I'd say he's far from done long term. After all, he did just turn 26 yrs old.
