Franchise tags as of Friday

This franchise tag sounds like it would be a violation of civil rights in just about any other profession.
One could easily argue it denies individual rights.
Except for your individual rights are collectively bargained when you are in the NFL.

which is why i said 'would be'.

Man this whole 'franchise tag' deal must really stretch the 'anti-trust exemption' status the NFL has been granted.

It just looks like an invisible barrier operating against the ideals of anti-trust. The collective bargaining of rights without anti-trust laws just doesn't have a righteous ring to it.

it's like any place you work for - if you dont like it you can always leave :) places all over are getting rid of bonuses, profit sharing, cost of living raises - **** gas was what 97 cents in 99, everything else was cheaper by a lot too... a lot of us live on the same wages

sorry, I don't buy it MJ, this is not infringing on anyone's rights.....they have the right to got play for another league if they don't want to get paid like a top 10 player at their position for the year....the choice is theirs. I am sure Canada would take them.....

Broncos tag K Matt Prater. Prater becomes the third kicker to be franchise tagged so far with a couple more possible before this afternoons deadline. Last season Prater had 4 walk off FG's.

The Bucs are rumored to be leaning towards tagging K Connor Barth. If so he'll be the 5th kicker tagged this year. We'll know for sure by 4 pm.

Detroit hs placed the franchise tag on DE Cliff Avril. The tag means that Avril will make $q0.6M in 2012. Clif has stated that he'd consider holding out if the Lions used the tag on him. Urgent, all day long negotiation yesterday and again this morning left the two sides far apart.

Titans assigned the franchise tag to FS Michael Griffin which should allow CB Cortland Finnegan to hit the market.

Monday's franchise tag deadline came and went without free agent Matt Flynn being slapped with the mechanism by the Packers.
Other notable free agents who were rumored as being considered for the tag but did not receive it include DE Mario Williams, OG Carl Nicks, WRs Vincent Jackson, Brandon Lloyd, Marques Colston, and Pierre Garcon, NT Sione Pouha, RBs Michael Bush and Peyton Hillis, and DT Jason Jones. Their clubs have until March 13 to work out contract terms, or they'll hit the free agent market.
