DENVER -- Colorado's biggest collapse in the football program's 121-year history was the last straw. Multiple media outlets are reporting that embattled Buffaloes coach Dan Hawkins will be fired Tuesday.

Hawkins has been on the hot seat since last year, when the Buffs went 3-9. The cries for his ouster grew louder Saturday after Colorado blew a 28-point lead at Kansas with less than 12 minutes left and lost 52-45.

It was the 17th straight loss outside Colorado for Hawkins, who is 19-39 in five seasons in Boulder, including 3-6 this year.

A school spokesman said he couldn't confirm the TV and newspaper reports that athletic director Mike Bohn would replace Hawkins with associate coach Brian Cabral for the final three games.

Bohn didn't return messages Monday night and Hawkins didn't respond to a text message from The Associated Press.

ESPN NCAAF Colorado fires Dan Hawkins

And thats the ballgame :)

BOULDER, Colo. -- Dan Hawkins was fired as football coach at Colorado three days after the biggest meltdown in school history put a cap on his five failed seasons with the Buffaloes.

Athletic director Mike Bohn promoted longtime assistant Brian Cabral to interim coach for the final three games of the season, beginning Saturday against Iowa State at Folsom Field.

Bohn said the search for a new coach would begin immediately.

At 70 years old, former CU coach Bill McCartney has publicly expressed an interest in coaching again and remains a "viable candidate," Bohn said. McCartney led the Buffaloes to their only national title in 1990.

I hear from other sources besides ESPN an early front runner really is McCartney, the guy who won their National Championship. Personally I think you leave the battleship out in the mothball fleet and get a guy who identifies with this century.

Im going to say with the talent they have, and moving to the Pac-12. Mike Leach will at least get a sniff. Should be easier to recruit guys to Colorado than West friggin Texas
