Dallas Cowboys Scoreboard will not be moved, for now

The NFL has sent out a memo to all teams stating that the scoreboard will not be moved at this time, although a long term solution is being studied.

For the time being, a "do over" will be instituted with the clock being reset.

The replay assistant will be able to initiate a booth review, otherwise, a coaches challenge must be used if no review is initiated by the replay assistant.

Basically, it looks like this is simply going to be watched during the season, and if the scoreboard continues to be hit, the league and Dallas will get together on a plan to pay for moving the scoreboard.

So just like in the video game, the "MULLIGAN" has become a reality.

Old Jackass...
Now were playing Street Football? Do over....the ball hit the power line...

I bet by the middle of the season, that scoreboard will be hit so many times, the League will end up shelling out the money, thereby Jerry Jones will be smiling not having to pay for the screw up....

Just slap a fine on any punter that hits it and enjoy the long punt returns from those "low line drives". :trampolin

Thank you NFL! You just gave every visting team a quick way to stop the clock if they want late in a game. Bring punter in, hit board...stop clock, reset...bring offense back on...and go. Just wait...you know it will happen.

I think the point here is to see if it is truly going to be a problem. So far you have one punter who has hit it, and it was intentional.

If my punter is purposely trying to hit the scoreboard in a real game, resulting in poor kicks, I am finding a new punter.

If this turns out to truly be a problem, then by all means, move it.

This will cause numerous delays. Remind me to never use Jerry Jones' contractors! And I bet he took the highest bid:biglaugh: Let's see 900 million or 1.1 billion, Oh let's go with this good ol boy here.

McBriar was asked about it and said he hadn't hit it, and really had not interest in wasting his practice time trying to hit it. Is there a conflicting story from him on this somewhere?

This is the first and only time you will ever hear me do this... but I'm sidding with JJ on this one. He put the damn thing higher than the required length. It's not his fault. Plus did you see the cheerleaders on that thing? One boob was like the size of a house!

In that case, keep it, heck make the screen bigger.

I think you're underestimating punters in the NFL. They can kick it high, really high.

Some punters' style is to kick it for maximum hangtime, including the Eagles Sav Rocca. I can almost guarantee you that Rocca will hit the scoreboard unless he intentionally changes his kick to avoid it. I find this obscene - there should not be an obstruction interfering with play. What's next... obstacles on the field?

Goodell once again shows that when it comes to athletes he is unforgiving, but when it's in the context of NFL owners, coaches etc. he is spineless. This really causes me to lose a lot of respect for him as a commissioner. How on earth did he arrive at this conclusion? What an insult to the players, fans etc.

Im a Dallas fan honest!!!
They hung the scoreboard higher then was legally required. The sign isn't the issue, the rule is and should be addressed. This rule is old and doesn't account for current skill level of a modern kicker. Losing respect for a commissioner for enforcing a rule?? Come on Birdman lets not get too dramatic. I can't wait for the first retard to take a kick at the screen and miss. Thank you field position. The rule incorporates more then hanging screens and if this was a light string or a hanging camera no one would give a crap. The real issue here is the new stadium makes everyone elses stadium look like a little league dugout. If the NFL changes the ruling on this for next year, it isn't just Dallas' screen that will have to be changed.
