Niners would hold onto Crabtree's rights until 2010 draft
The News
The San Francisco Chronicle points out that 49ers' rookie Michael Crabtree would not be able to work out for teams prior to the 2010 draft if he decides to sit out this season. The team will retain his rights until draft day, so he will not be able to participate in any pre-draft activities.
Our View
Crabtree is almost guaranteed to drop well below his slot if he sits this season out, which makes you wonder why he would even consider it. He won't be allowed to talk to or work out for anyone before the draft, and after this season it wouldn't make sense for anyone to use a high pick on him. The Niners hold all the cards here, and Crabtree needs to realize that before he ruins his career before it even gets started.

One thing for sure, Crabtree must have felt just a little concerned about his situation after the 49ers went out and defeated the Cardinals, though we all should have seen that game turning out like it did. San Francisco is just a better team, even without Crabtree.

Wonder what he is going to do when he gets drafted in the 4th rd next year?

Part of me hates the thought of that because if he got into the league now, I think he would be one of the best receivers in the league in very short order.

The other part of me kind of hopes it actually plays out this way. Nothing against the guy, but grandstanding like this when you have never even taken the field in the NFL is just senseless. I'm sure the guy is getting some very bad advice from those close to him, and he is at an age where people can influence him heavily, but at some point, he has to get his head out of his ass and realize just how bad he is potentially screwing up his career.

I was very excited to see this guy go into the NFL for quite some time, now I am just getting tired of hearing about the drama that is surrounding him.

It's not so much his agent. His agent is up against Crabtree's advisor that's telling him to pass on this money. His adviser is his cousin, bail bondsman, former body guard to Michael Irvin, banned for life by USA Boxing, David Wells. Google this guy and see what comes up. He's been involved in tons of shady deals. He was even arrested for stealing boxing gloves from the Dallas Police Athletic League.

His bail bond business advertises under the catchy jingle of "You ring, we spring".

That's what happens when you don't have quality guidance or role models in your life.

That might be a good idea. Possibly a couple of draft picks for his rights?
Maybe the Giants or Patriots?
