Bob Sanders couldn't stay healthy and the Indianapolis Colts couldn't afford to keep investing in the oft-injured safety.Team owner Jim Irsay released the 2007 NFL defensive player of the year Friday, announcing the decision less than 24 hours after he told reporters he would make a decision about Sanders' future before March 3.
"We thank Bob for all his incredible contributions, from his Super Bowl interception to his defensive player of the year honor," Irsay said in a statement.

This is not a big surprise, nice that they released him early so he can find a landing spot.

He was a big difference maker when healthy and playing. But he has missed so much time that the rest of the Colts DBs became good. Not Bob Sanders great but each year the difference when he left the D with injury was smaller. If he allows his price tag to be right he could be a good gamble for a lot of teams.

As a dynasty owner, I had to cut him last year for the same reason. Can't say I'm surprised the Colts finally cut the cord. Sanders needs to let his body really heal first before finding a new team though. Talent like his doesn't help anybody wrapped in a cast.

That was my thought. Take 2011 off, let your body heal and give it another shot in 2012. Guy is still young enough.

The other thing is don't try to take guys out with every hit. Sometimes, it's good enough just to make the tackle..............
