If you need a refresher on the rules for the series or a run down of previous match-ups? Here is the rules and history thread:
"Close Calls 2010" - A Sports Outlaw Exclusive
Remember, this is based on re-draft leagues and non ppr scoring.

Today's Match-up:
Mike Wallace vs Jeremy Maclin

Last Year's Stats:
Mike Wallace - 16 gms - 39 rec - 756 rec yds - 6 TD's
Jeremy Maclin - 15 gms - 56 rec - 773 ru yds - 4 TD's

Today's match-up is between two big play WR's who are looking for their breakout season. Both proved last year that they are capable of going all the way on any play, but which one become a complete WR and consistent threat each week? So which one is worth the pick? That is the question in today's close call!

Thanks to Ben "The Phallus" Roethlisberger, I have to vote for Maclin.

Good things happening in Philly and bad things happening in Pittsburgh.

I like Wallace a lot but can't pull the trigger on the guy.

Wallace is the WR2 on a team that will be missing its franchise QB for at least the first 4 weeks.
Maclin is the WR2 on a team that will be breaking in a "new" franchise QB.

Divisional strength of schedule leans towards Wallace.
Pass-happy offense (which equates to targets) leans towards Maclin.

I hate to be wishy-washy and foofoo a Steeler, but I have to give the slightest of edges to Maclin, due to his potential scoring ability in the return game.
Long-term, I'd definitely go Wallace since he has a faster track to the #1 gig as Hines is aging. PPR leagues and leagues that count special teams production, Maclin has a decided advantage.

Spot on Wes!

I will disagree some though. I think Roeth is gone eventually...and until a real replacement is in place....I see Maclin and Kolb growing old together....

I'm leaning Wallace here. Maclin was in the #2 gig last year for the most part and I think will see similar numbers (might be a slight uptic). Wallace I think is on the fast track to breaking out. We know who the number 1 is in Philly, but Wallace might just be the number one before long. Not likely to happen this year but is might be a lot closer than many think between him and Ward. Based on upside, I'm going to lean to Wallace here.

You feel that way even with No Rapelispisser?
One, your looking at 4 games sans Ben. Lefty is a capable replacement IMO and the sched is a pretty easy start with. They are close in my rankings, but I am leaning Wallace.

Maclin. He's simply going to get more opportunities, IMO. Kolb will throw the ball more than the QBs of Pitt will. They'll be running a lot more this year.

and not just because I'm an Eagles homer either. I think this guy will have tremendous opportunities this year playing alongside Jackson and Celek. He will face less coverage, will get more balls thrown to him and I believe he is a more talented player than Wallace.

Wallace, if he put up those numbers as a WR3 then you can only imagine what numbers he will put up as a number 2 or possibly a number 1 WR. Although Wallace is a more risky pick because of the QB situation I would still go with him. The Steelers defense is good but the offense could take a hit this season. Which could be a good thing. The Steeler will behind more often then last year and will be throwing the ball all game. On the other hand Maclin will be the third option. The Eagles offense looks like it will be putting up some numbers this year and will probably run the ball more then they did last year.

My reasoning too, except for the whole Eagles homer thing. Loved watching Maclin in college and with a great WR and a great TE in the same offensive system, I think he will be a solid option for Kolb

Got to go with this solid reasoning. Maclin may be the more talented of the two, but Wallace will have the better oppurtunity to put up better stats with Holmes out of the picture now. I don't like his match up with the Jets in week 15 though, Revis Island can be a lonely place.

Maclin and Kolb, in Andy’s pass happy offense
Wallace, has a question on who will be his QB.
Wallace is on the fast track to be the WR1, so that means better coverage.
Maclin is the easy pick!

I am going with Wallace just because he got me in a couple of games last year and was in my who the heck is this guy category.

Im going Maclin, and I'm a Steeler fan! I think that Wallace's speed will draw the safety over the top and I think that it will open the middle of the field and H.Miller will actually benifit more from that whole scenario. I'm not a lover of D.Jackson who will get the #1 coverage, I think Maclin is a better overall WR and Kolb will throw to who is open, which will be Maclin.
