I personally don't see what people see in S.Smith. People see him as a great WR, but he's really only had 2 WR#1 FF years and he's on a run first team. Wayne is an easy choice here.
Then by your same standards Wayne has only had 3 of those seasons.....

I'm going Steve Smith here. Kid is a stud and was one of the more consistent WR's in the league last year. Missed the first 2 games and STILL hit 1400 yds!

Ya'll are sweet. Truth be told, both Wayne and S.Smith are lucky as dogs that they don't play in the same era as the late and Hall of Fame great WR Don Hutson. His 1942 season for the Green Bay Packers racked up 74 receptions for 1211 yards and 17 TD's during a time when there were only 11 regular season games. So missing two games and still making 1400 yards with his talent is well...expected. All he has to do is, keep it up and avoid injury.

Wayne is by far my favorite player to watch play the game, and between these two he's a more refined playmaker. And he can pluck some beauties out of the tightest coverage with flawless precision. But I'm just not confident about how Wayne will handle the heat of the spotlight without Harrison on the field. Payton too for that matter.

You are corect. Wayne wasn't a solid WR#1 because he had one of the best WR's of all time in M.Harrison on the field with him. Steve Smith has had no Harrison and still can't put up 8 TD's. Smith is a high WR#2 for me and Wayne is a low WR#1. I never understood why people targeted S.Smith as their WR#1, but to each his own.

I am on the Steve Smith wagon, especially now that he Mush are back together. I'm not saying Mush is anything other than a valid compliment on the otherside that helps take the pressure off of Smith. Mush was still targeted over 100 times last year, and snagged 65 catches and 5 tds. Having this piece back in place last year helped Smith go off in a shortened season, Not to mention the running game they discovered. I like Smith this year.

I'm a colts fan so I'm a bit biased. Having said that, I'm not sure who I like better. However, the coaching change talk is a bit overrated. Howard Mudd and Tom Moore are both going to be on the sideline in almost an identical role as last year. The only difference is Indy hired them as consultants because of the screwed up NFL pension deal for some coaches. The loss of Harrison might be a valid concern, but honestly he hasn't been the primary target since he got hurt. If anything I think Wayne will benefit from Harrison being gone. Peyton felt obliged to send a certain amount of balls towards Harrison. Wayne will now be Peyton's first look and honestly Peyton missed Wayne several times because he was fixed on Marvelous. I also think the addition of Donald Brown will help Wayne. Either Adai will step up and take pressure off of the passing game or Brown will step in and take pressure off of the passing game or both. I think this is very close but I'll go with Wayne because I'm a homer.

You know who really had game?

The late and Hall of Fame great Don Hutson. His 1942 season actually puts both Wayne and S.Smith to shame. At a time when only 11 regular season games were played, Hutson racked up 74 catches for 1211 yards and 17 TD's. Not to mention that he only started 4 of these 11 games and still managed to get 6.7 yards/game and 16.4 yards per reception. Say what you want about the D's not being tough enough at the time to stop this guy... keep in mind the D's could pile drive a WR with little to no penalties and even less hesitation to pull a WR down by his face mask.

IMO Smith is still a solid pick and Wayne could really shine this year... but I'm partial to agree with RH & Boldin.

You're hitting the mental aspect of last years playoff game alot, and it is making me second guess some. I guess I figured a guy like him who has had some success would be driven to show everyone that that was an aberation. He only had 12 Int's through 16 games before that debacle. He has a nice Wr tandem and an athletic TE to throw to, not to mention a great running game to lean on. I hope you are wrong.

true but it wasnt just delhomme that fell apart in that game. the offense was out of step and the D just wasnt consistently powerful. your're right that he owned a good portion of blame for it tho, as good QBs often do.

Breakdown in the playoffs sounds like Elways detractors before he finally won it all. Jake is a nice addition to a team that has the rest of the pieces I do not think he is the type of player you want to consistently win games on his own. He is not being asked to do that. He is a blue collar player who will rebound during the regular season.

If he does breakdown in the playoffs it is irrelevant for our purposes since it will be post-postseason in fantasy.

It has been tough trying to peg Delhomme over the years. He had some dymnamic playoff performances several years ago. But this was when Mushy became a real threat at #2 WR. Since then Mushy moved on and no real #2WR came along. They brought Mushy back after his Bears stint but that ship has sailed. Delhomme would look a lot better with a real #2 WR. Problem was we had bigger hopes for him as a elite QB while he is probably more of a caretaker type with upside potential.

MuMu did fine but is not the impact player he was going to become when he flew north. That being the case the #3 WR has to definitely make more of an impact.

I would not describe Jake as being in a caretaker role but any aspirations to being an elite QB would have to be directly hinged to some combination of top tiered WR's/RB's/TE beyond just Steve and a solid running game.
