If you need a refresher on the rules for the series or a run down of previous match-ups? Here is the rules and history thread:
"Close Calls 2009" - A Sports Outlaw Exclusive
Remember, this is based on re-draft leagues and non ppr scoring.

Today's Match-up:

Steve Slaton vs Frank Gore

Last Year's Stats:
Steve Slaton - 16 gms - 1,282 ru yds - 9 ru TD's - 50 rec - 377 rec yds - 1 rec TD
Frank Gore - 14 gms - 1,036 ru yds - 6 ru TD's - 43 rec - 373 yds - 2 rec TD's

Today's Match-up is between two RB's who are at different point in their career. Gore is try to show that he can get back to the numbers he once had and be an elite RB in the league. Slaton is trying to prove last year was no joke and he can take the next step. Can Gore stay healthy enough to reach elite numbers? Does he have enough help around him? Can Slaton avoid the sophmore slump? These are just some of the questions you will need to answer in today's close call.

This one is easy for me, Gore. Not that I love Gore this year or anything, but I just don't trust Slaton to repeat. Gore is more talented and I think Singletary is going to commit to running the ball. I think he could have a nice year. Slaton I don't see cracking 1000 yds this year, just a hunch.....and sometimes you just have to go with them.

The only cracking will be one of Frank's bones. To me increased running game commitment means increased injury potential.

I'm going with Gore. I think he will have a great year this year and I just don't trust Slaton to repeat the year he had.

I feel Slaton will easily combine for 1,000, but he won't replicate his Td totals again. I see Gore reaching Slatons 2008 figures.

This is a tough one though becasue I just rated them differently on a 1st round list???? Fantasy football is a game of second guessing ones self repeatedly.

You have to go Slaton here. Why?

The team around him.

You have a seriously improving Qb situation with Schaub...if he stays healthy.
You have incredible Passing talent with A.Johnson, K.Walters and O.Daniels.
You thus have a defense that cannot stack the box against a young dynamic Rb who catches as well as he runs.

Now what do you have in San Fran?
I will give you an improved Oline...which is good.
Wrs???? Crabtree was a steal...but he won't be god awesome in his first year...and all wanna be's or has beens after that.
TE.......possible bust...definate head case.
Qb......:biglaugh:

Plus....Gore simply gets dinged up too much. He is almost a westbrook light in that he always seems to be questionable.

Nope...Slaton here...by a long, long, long shot.

was referring to ru yds, not combined yds.

This was tough because I love Frank Gore and would love to have him on my roster, but I would take Slayton over him.

Pretty much for the same reasons that Phic mentioned. IMO it has less to do with the weapons Slayton's team has vs the lack of weapons SF has. Slayton seems to be in a far better position to post good numbers this year than Frank Gore does.

I picked Slaton

Gore has been over used, past injuries are going to catch up with him.

Gore for me. Slaton was the beneficiary of attrition (John Carlson will be over drafted for the same reason). I watched Slaton slam into the line for 1 yard several times in a row and then break a 20 yarder. I can't count on a guy like that.

Gore is physically more of a bellcow back, and the team around him is improving.
