If you need a refresher on the rules for the series or a run down of previous match-ups? Here is the rules and history thread:
"Close Calls 2009" - A Sports Outlaw Exclusive
Remember, this is based on re-draft leagues and non ppr scoring.

Today's Match-up:

Tom Brady vs Drew Brees

Last Year's Stats:

Drew Brees - 16 gms - 412/635 5,069 yds 34 TDs 17 INTs

Tom Brady - 1 gm - 7/11 76 yds 0 TDs 0 INTs

This matchup pits two of the best QBs of the modern era. Brees has been slinging passes in a spread offense since junior high school. Brady is on pace for the Hall of Fame and in 2007 piloted one of the best teams in history. Brady comes off a major knee injury while Brees comes off a monster season with better weapons entering 2009.

Can Brees keep pace? Will Brady bounce back? These are just a few of the questions you must answer before you make your choice.

Sgt John goes with Tom Brady. Even at 3/4 of his 2007 form this year he is still better than Brees.

I am going with Brees because John went with Brady....

No, seriously.. Taking Brees because I fear how that spaghetti knee is going to hold up for Brady.

Im not so worried about the knee. He is in a brace, he is practicing just fine, he is protected by a mammoth offensive line, the NFL will make sure their star attraction gets extra referee protection, and he is banging Gisele.

I voted for Brees. He is a bad ass on a lesser team and puts up outstanding numbers.

Put Brady on a lesser team away from the Pats offensive system and there would be no T.Brady

I love Brees! Love him. He's my favorite QB in the NFL.

That being said I'm still going Brady.

Brady + Moss + Welker = Fantasy Gold.

I'll take Brees playing in the south (often in domes). ALSO Brady's knee almost falled off.

This was a tough choice for me but I am going with Brady. With Moss and Welker I believe he will have the better year. And if Galloway is able to step in and contribute that will push Brady past Brees even more.

Co-sign.

Brees has for the most part lesser weapons and still puts up insane numbers. No this season the offense looks like a reloaded gun. You can put any starting QB in Bradys position and they would put up numbers with the weapons he has surrounding him. But put Brady in Brees position and it would be a different story.

I have to go Brees here.

Both Brady and Brees play in offensive systems that emphasize passing and both have great long threat weapons.

N.O. is a little more pass happy than even New England. Brees has attempted over 600+ pass attempts every year since he has been under Payton (HC). He is averaging about 50 more pass attempts than Brady every year.

Brady made up for that difference with more TDs and yards on average but things are way skewed because of the 50td season that he had in '07. I think it is a real stretch to think he will come close to 50 TDs this year. Combine with the fact that they aquired Fred Taylor and Brady coming off the knee injury they will most likely mix in more run this year. That will cut down on Brady's attempts especially in the red zone.

I can see 30-35 TDs for Brady this year with 4100 yds.

With Brees he will have to chuck the ball much more because of that horrible defense. Every game is a shootout with the Saints and Brees shold have closer to 5000 yds again this season.

Peyton Manning Is the NFL's Best Quarterback
Tom Brady vs Drew Brees

I believe the formation of Brady, Moss, Welker, Galloway & Watson, is a little bit more formidable then Brees, Colston, Henderson, Bush & Shockey.
Brees will spread the ball more, until he can find his go to guy. While Brady will go long to Moss and frequently to Welker, pepper in some Galloway & Watson and there will be a lot of scoring going on.

Did the Indianapolis Colts retire Peyton Manning jersey yet? If not then he must still be playing. As long as Peyton Manning is throwing passes, they're a Super Bowl contender.

So the question of Manning, Wayne, Clark, & Gonzalez , sounds as good as any line up in the NFL!
