If you need a refresher on the rules for the series or a run down of previous match-ups? Here is the rules and history thread:
"Close Calls 2009" - A Sports Outlaw Exclusive
Remember, this is based on re-draft leagues and non ppr scoring.

Today's Match-up:

Chris Cooley vs Owen Daniels

Last Year's Stats:
Chris Cooley - 16 gms - 83 rec - 849 rec yds - 1 rec TD
Owen Daniels - 16 gms - 70 rec - 862 yds - 2 rec TD's

Today's Match-up is between two TE's who seem to have a lot in commone when look at last years stats. Career highs in receprions and yards....yet a career low in TD's. Cooley seemed to take his game to another level in all areas but finding the endzone. He went from being a 6-8 TD guy to 1 TD. If he his TD's were at his career average, he would have been talked about with the Elite TE's in the league, can he make that jump this year? Daniels is in a similiar situation, keeps getting better, took his game to another level last year, just forgot that scoring part of the game. Houston's offense is on the rise, can he continue to be a big part of this? These are just some of the questions you will need to answer in today's close call.

Cooley has always been solid, I think his TD's go back up this year to about his norm. Owens has more competetion in the redzone then Cooley.

I like Cooley. Zorn also said he would like to see Cooley get a few more touchdowns this year.

This isn't close for me... Cooley all the way. In an interview the other day on Sirius radio, Cooley stated that the coach garunteed him 6 TD's minimum.

I am torn here. Like most I expect the Washington offense to get better. However, Daniels has been a target of mine for two years. He is in a contract year ( he was tagged this year) and Houston will only continue to improve now that they have a legit rb and two legit Wrs.

I will take Daniels...by a slight edge.

Oh, keep in mind also that Daniels numbers dropped some when Sage was in. For whatever reason...Sage didn't throw to TE...maybe they kept him in to block.

Must say, I thought the results would be much closer as this is a pairing I see go different ways in each draft I am in. I side with the rest and like Cooley, in fact, there is a shot he could really break out this year if he can find the endzone this season. His receptions and yds are great. Daniels is in the same boat though IMO, just not quite as established. I think this ends up being much closer than this poll and Daniels could be the benefit of a much better offense in Houston. He's a great yardage TE, just needs more scores. Which ever of the two find the endzone more will have the better fantasy year, the yardage will be similiar.

Yeah this one really isn't even a close one. Cooley by far is the most solid performer. Last year he had a career high 83 catches but has had at least 65 catches in the last 4 years.

His only downer last year was his lack of TDs so the question becomes was that an anomaly or the new norm. Based on his past and the fact that it is very very unusual to have that many catches with that few TDs, I say there is not much of a chance that his TD production will be that low again.

Went with Daniels. He is getting better and better. If things actually work out for Washington this year, Cooleys numbers will go down a bit.

Close call is right. I'm going with Cooley, he is very consistent although his touchdowns were way down last year. I think he'll bounce back.

Wouldn't bother me to take Daniels if Cooley was already drafted.

I went with Cooley but it was a slight nod for me. Cooley is a bit of a concern
as he became the TE equivilent of Keyshawn Johnson. Will that continue it's really hard to figure. The Redskins invested heavily in the draft on WRs awhile back and it hasn't really played out well yet. He could bounce back in the TD area but someone has to really step up in that young WR corp. If not, he may be relied on to be the second best WR again.

While the vote wasn't even close I agree with Joefan. I would be looking for Cooley in the draft but it wouldn't upset me at all to get Daniiels because as Sarge said he has been getting better all the time.

I'm back :)
i like cooley a lot. even with his low (nonexistent) TDs last year he was the number 5 TE in ppr leagues. i think he'll continue to catch a lot of passes this year and correct the td problem. i love his adp this year.

like others, though, i have no problem taking daniels if cooley goes. so life is good :)
