This is a tired argument.
Other than last season, how long has it been since Warner was not dinged up or hurt? Granted the year before he was not the starter until later....
He is over 40. For a Qb that is near ancient. He is NOT Favre, who plays through injury. He has history of getting injured. He is also slower than molassis in a snow storm. He WILL get hurt. He WILL NOT finish the season. Like it, don't like it, pull this up at the end of the year if you like. But it will happen. Arizona is going to really be bad this year. They caught lightning in a bottle....the bottle will now be broken.
As for Rodger's and sophmore slump..yes you absolutely could. And you may be correct. But to my knowledge...that doesn't happen often with Qbs. No real change in Wrs or offense for Rodgers means better shot to repeat than an aging Warner.
Hey guys,
Long time lurker and finally decided to post, just wanted to throw some of my thoughts on this.
First of, Warner is 38...not over 40 years of age just yet.
He is an injury risk but the guy is still a fantasy stud. He's got a great arm coupled with a high completion % and has the supporting cast to put up great numbers (Fitz, Boldin, Breaston). I'm not sold on Wells or Hightower and quite frankly, this team is not built on the running game. Their success last year was mainly through the passing game and I just dont see them detering away from that. He threw for 2+ TDs in 10 games last year and throws for a ton of yardage, meaning he'll get you points each week.
With the mocks I have done so far, Rodgers is going way ahead of Warner and that means a few things:
1) people are spending too high of a pick on QBs, something I wouldn't do with all the value to be had this year at the QB position
2) Warner actually might be a great value pick in the middle rounds
Drafting a decent back-up is a must and there are plenty of guys with high upside that can be had in the late rounds.
I know this is a debate on Warner-Rodgers but it's so close for me, you'll have to go on personal preference.
If you think Rodgers can take a step forward and become elite this year, he should be your guy. In a keeper league, it's a no-brainer.
If you're still not sold on Rodgers, Warner makes for a fine pick.
Looking forward to the season...
