If you need a refresher on the rules for the series or a run down of previous match-ups? Here is the rules and history thread:
http://www.sofantasyfootball.com/nfl/f2/t17854/http://www.sofantasyfootball.com/nfl/f2/close-calls-2009-sports-outlaw-exclusive-27685/
Remember, this is based on re-draft leagues and non ppr scoring.

Today's Match-up:

Steven Jackson vs Brian Westbrook

Last Year's Stats:
Steven Jackson - 12 gms - 1,042 ru yds - 7 ru TD's - 40 rec - 379 rec yds - 1 rec TD
Brian Westbrook - 14 gms - 936 ru yds - 9 ru TD's - 54 rec - 402 yds - 5 rec TD's

Today's Match-up is between two RB's who were once considered with the Elite RB's in the league. Can either of these RB's get back to that level? Can either of these RB's stay healthy a whole season? Jackson teases owners with his potential and flashes of genius, but will he ever do in on a consistent basis? While Westbrook just continues to get it done, but will age ever catch up with him? These are just some of the questions you will need to answer in today's close call.

I'm assuming this will be a landslide in S-Jax's favor, but I may be wrong.

Both of these guys have a recent injury history to take into consideration, both of them are an integral part of their team's passing game, and both of them have the potential to finish the season as a top-5 RB.

I went Jax because of 3 primary reasons. Age, divisional strength, and committee. Jax is one of the declining number of top-RB's who has the backfield mostly to himself. Westy will be deferring some to McCoy, plus Donny Mac now has some downfield weapons to look at instead of constantly dumping it to Westbrook in the flat. Obviously, a significant amount of Westy's value lies in his receiving yards and TD's (and catches in a PPR, which isn't a factor here)

Thought the 2 might seem close at first glance, and their stats were comparable last season. What is sad is when you wonder who will play more games, and I feel that will be westy again. I also feel that the Rams are almost as bad as the Raiders, and don't even have Holt now. I won't consider SJax in the first round.

Like RC I initially thought this would be much closer than it actually was once I read through the posts.

Jax: No competition and weaker at the WR position. The team is in decline not building at this point. D's will focus on him and make the others produce to win - even with those facts I would take him in the later portion of the 1st round

Westie: Westie will benefit from being spelled by McCoy - better than him getting his rest because he is dinged up and being a weekly game time decision. Having another WR to spread the field will help him when he is used as the dump off. He is no longer the only focal point on the offense.

I would reverse my decision if we were talking dynasty but for this year Brian not only pulls in the lead but it is not close.

I like Westy here for a lot of reasons, and none of them are because I don't like SJax.

The #1 reason I like Westy is the addition of Jason Peters. Their offensive line and offense in general has just improved greatly. There is no question which team, STL or PHI, will have more RZ trips. Yes the WRs in PHI might steal some of Westy's thunder, but whatever gets the team to 1st and Goal is good with me.

Never underestimate what the addition to a top tier lineman can do for a RB. See Thomas Jones last year.

I'm going with Westbrook as well. I usually try to avoid both of these players all together because of their injury issues, but if I had to pick one it would be Westbrook.

Um, neither? Last mock I did I ended up taking LeSean McCoy in the 15th. I assume Westy is going to be injured for most of the year and went with the guy I assumed will pick up the slack. As for Steven Jackson, I won't draft him for the reasons listed above.

I was interested to see where both of these stood with the masses. I, like many others here, am not very high on either. I will not be spending a first rounder on either. Jackson has burnt me a few times already and Westy injury history coupled with age scrae me as well. If it was top of the 2nd and these two were falling like rocks and I had to pick one I think I would go with SJax in this scoring.....but not by very much....

Sorry, I am no longer a S.Jax believer. Yes the O-line was awful...but he isn't the guy who first came out and took Faulk's job. Also not mentioned was Westbrook had a major injury last year and played through it. He is fully healthy this year and I think will explode again with the O-line revamp Philly got.

This isn't even a close one.

Although I stayed away from both of these players in my draft, I'm going with Westbrook. He has better potential coming into this season.

I went with S Jax, although both are very close. I have S Jax just ahead of Westy in my rankings. S Jax is younger, he has a better schedule, he is pretty much all the Rams have for offense. He should be a full participant in camps this year too. So he will be ready for the season.

Westy will have more red zone trips, but there are more targets for McNabb now. Also remember that Andy Reid is a terrible play caller in the red zone. I was a Westy owner last year and can't tell you how many times Andy Reid pissed me off with the play calling.

Had very high hopes for SJax last year. Not only was he a huge letdown last year, but this season is looking worse yet for the Rams.

Westy by a longshot

I owned Sjax last year in one of my leagues and it ended up costing me big in the playoffs. I gave him so many chances to come through. I vowed never to draft him again.

Westbrook will still be a solid contributor no matter how much they're using McCoy and Weaver. I'd go with him for sure.
