CJ is a no show for Titans' voluntary minicamp

rotoworld,
Chris Johnson characterized contract talks as "at a standstill" after taking home the Best Breakthrough Athlete award at the ESPY's Wednesday night.

"I'm just praying right now, hopefully by the time camp comes we'll have something worked out," said Johnson. "If it's not a long-term deal, just have something to get me to play this year." In a followup interview, CJ2K put it in simpler terms: "If they pay me, I'm in camp. If they're not, I'm not in camp." We expect a resolution before camp and by August 10 at the very latest.

"If they pay me, I'm in camp. If they're not, I'm not in camp." That doesn't give me the warm and fuzzies.

The cbssports.com spin does make a CJ owner feel a bit better though.

Titans RB Chris Johnson says contract talks with the team are at a standstill. On Wednesday he said he wasn't sure about reports the Titans were talking with his agent about converting incentives into a $2.5 million bonus to get him more money this year. "I'm letting my agent and the team handle that. Right now we're at a standstill, and hopefully when camp starts we'll have an outcome," Johnson said. He ran for 2,006 yards in 2009 and wants a long-term deal with at least $30 million guaranteed, but has indicated he would be happy with a short-term pay hike.

Analysis: Johnson is expected to be the No. 1 overall pick in most Fantasy leagues in 2010 -- and for good reason. He might not run for 2,000 yards again, but he is a candidate for 1,500 total yards and a healthy amount of touchdowns. The key to making Fantasy owners at ease with taking Johnson with the No. 1 overall pick is Johnson being in training camp on time, which appears to be likely if he's willing to play in 2010 with a pay raise in lieu of a new long-term contract.

I am feeling a long hold out here. I know I am in the minority on this...but just feels that way

I don't think he is in position for the long holdout. He needs this year to count towards FA if he can't get hisd fat pay day now. He also has the fines to consider, they will hurt him since hid base is very low in Nfl terms.

Not to totally disagree with you.......................................but,

He has too many years left on his current deal, and facing a potential year off due to labor disagreement....he may instead feel the need to get pain NOW is more important. Just playing devil's advocate here.

I will add he is not the most durable rb, and if he gets a load this year like last....he could be seriously, seriously at risk.
