Cincinnati is a disaster

Ok I took Andy Dalton...granted to cover one week this year, but this team just looks HORRIBLE.

Thoughts anyone? Will they manage to win 3 games this year?

It is what it is. Its a young team. They have rookie play makers in Qb and Wr or 2nd year. Simpson literally is 2nd year on play as well. Greshem.

Other issue is I am more and more convinced Benson isn't the Benson they first got. He won't make his own yards.

Defense I think will get better as the year goes. But offense will be bad for a while.

Its preseason. Dont put to much into it...yet. There in a tough division as it is and having to ply all 3 twice, well thats an automatic 6 loses. Again its preseason, and the games are more to find players for each position than rather win. And if you really think cincy is bad, take a look at Jax. Defence will be better, but with them not dealing with there WR issues, both QBs will struggle trying to get any offence going. MJD wont last the season if they dont and try to ride on his shoulders.

Let's also remember that they played the Jets. Not only are they young, but they had to play the team that has made 2 AFC champ appearances in a row.

They play 49ers, Buffalo and Jax on weeks 3-5.

Buffalo v Cincy will definitly be a pooparama. SF it seems is finally headed in the right direction. With that being said. Thankfully since i'm done here i wont be subject to have to watch that game. Either game really. Just the thought of having to watch Jax for 16 games, including 2 monday night matchups, is punishment enough. Making me watch Buffalo v Cincy would just be down right cruel.

They're depending (or insisting) on a second round QB from what was considered a pretty poor QB draft.

Things are actually looking BETTER than I thought they would. So sorry Bengal fans...

When your starting QB would rather NOT PLAY than play for YOU, it ought to tell you something is wrong.

Complete rebuild......they are going to be bad....very bad. There is some hope for the future in some spots, but this is far from the team that won it's division just 2 years ago.

2-14 to 4-12....anywhere in there is what I am guessing.

So just out of curiousity....is it the entire Brown family or would the demise of "Mr. Brown" usher in a new era?

Not sure what his daughter would do if her Dad is out of the picture......I PRAY that she would sell....or at least hire a TRUE GM to run the operation.

Actually, most reports I have seen say that his daughter would be head and shoulders better than her father. Her first move would be to hire a football knowledgable GM to help run the show....

Waffling on a contract for arguably their best defensive player (Leon Hall).. Letting arguably their 2nd best defensive player walk in free agency (J. Joseph).. The Palmer fiasco.
I mean, I totally understand being stubborn due to personal principles, trust me. But it can be a fatal flaw sometimes. This could've been nipped in the bud the day Carson went in and said "please trade me". If that would've occurred before it hit the media and caught fire, I'm quite sure that Cincy could've got at least a 2nd & 4th from one of the teams that reached on 1st round QB's in this draft. Problem is, once brown decided Carson was serious, his trade value was next to nothing because everyone knew the story.
Re-signing Benson was ill-advised, both due to declining skills and continued knuckleheadedness. Especially when you have a much more talented young guy ready to take over in Bernard Scott. Drafting Green and Dalton, at least to me, was actually solid. Green is a legit #1 WR, and Dalton is a high character winner who will lead this team to the playoffs someday if they ever improve the rest of the team. Change is needed though. Obviously. Marv and the front office can't live off of 2009 forever.
Remember 2009? 2 seasons ago? When Cincy swept the AFC North and made the playoffs?
Best case for this year is: Dalton and Green develop an immediate connection, the other young WR's (Shipley, Simpson, Caldwell) and Gresham help out Dalton, the O-line prevents Dalton from getting killed by week 6, Johnson and Dunlap keep their heads on straight and capitalize on their D-line skills, Rey Rey stays healthy and takes that next step, Hall gets some help in the secondary, and they split with the Browns and beat 1 of the 4 AFC West teams. Unfortunately, if all that happens, the ceiling here is probably 6 games.
Best case for the franchise would be, can the coach, front office, and sell the team to a competent owner; go 1-15, then deal the 1st overall pick (Luck) to Buffalo for their entire draft (a la Ricky Williams), and start a real rebuilding effort.
Yes, I strongly dislike the rival Bengals.. but even this opposing fan doesn't like seeing that level of dysfunction on any NFL team. It's not good for the league overall.

Sarge, I have a soft spot in my heart for Abilene Christian alums (Scott, Knox, D.Manning, E.Gates, etc) due to the fact, as you know, I lived down the street from the campus for 4 years. I watched Scott and Knox firsthand and they were just otherworldly at that school, in that system. They're (Cincy) sitting on a real talent that they got for a song in the draft, and I'd love to see what he could do over 16 games before he leaves his prime years. I posted 2 years ago that he was outperforming most of the other RB's at that year's combine. I'm also very high on Shipley as a Welker/Steve Smith (PHI) type slot possession guy with 90+ reception upside. He's proven he can handle a huge workload at Texas. I believe he eclipsed 100 catches his senior year in only 13 or 14 games.
Bottom line is.. the Bengals have plenty of young talent scattered around the roster, Lewis just isn't the right coach to maximize it.
