CBA Update

They have agreed to extend the CBA for a bit. Can't see the union doing that without still being able to decertify. Also read earlier today that the NFL is finally going to provide additional financial records to the union. Small steps but at least something is happening

WASHINGTON -- The NFL and NFL Players Association agreed Thursday to a 24-hour extension of the negotiating window for a new collective bargaining agreement, according to NFL Network's Kara Henderson.
Momentum to approve the idea of "stopping the clock" had been building all day Thursday as the sides met for over eight hours in front of federal mediator George Cohen.
The original deadline for the expiration of the current CBA had been 11:59 p.m. ET Wednesday.
The terms of an extended deadline are open to negotiation, according to a league source. The amount of time, how it corresponds to the league year (can teams still sign existing free agents or cut players?) and the enforceability of the league's drug policy are eligible to be worked out between the sides, and that's what talks are centered on now.

Gonna watch Total Access in 1/2 hr. Hopefully there will be more

Call me silly, but I Think all these FA moves by teams tells me the Owners know they need to come to an agreement, and are preparing for it.

I think we end up with a rookie salary scale, I think we don't go to 18 games and I think the money will be split better, but with a higher % still going to players, just not as much.

Just a gut feeling here.

I hope they agree to something very soon. Free agency needs to happen before the draft, not after. It just seems strange to do it the other way.

Sounds like they will be meeting at 9:00 am Est tomorrow, but only to try and settle the terms of an extension. I think with the judge taking the owners war chest away they are getting caught in a jam by the players. Some owners would be facing extreme finacial durress with a lockout, never mind what a lawsuit from decertified players would cost them.

If the NFL owners want to lock them out, the players should just start thier own league. How would Jerry pay for his stadium then ??

Well nothing is going to happen for the next few days now on the CBA. Best news is they at least agreed to another 1 week extension until next Friday is certainly very promising. General feeling amounst all the media types is that there will be a settlement by then

Sounds like financial disclosure is still a major issue of trust here. Going to be tough to get past this I believe, if the players do not believe what the NFL teams are saying

On his way into Wednesday's mediation session, NFL general counsel Jeff Pash said the issue of financial transparency -- a key sticking point in labor talks this week -- "really should be behind us."

"We've made more information available in the course of this negotiation than has ever been made available in decades of collective bargaining with the NFLPA," Pash said. "Far more information. And we've offered to make even more information [available], including information that we do not disclose to our own clubs."

Pash did not reveal any specifics of the league's offer and wouldn't say what the union's response was. But a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press that the NFL offered to turn over five years of profitability data to the union -- and the offer was rejected.

Yahoo Sports' Jason Cole reports that the NFL and NFLPA have agreed on a "basic" compromise that would install a rookie wage scale to replace the current rookie salary cap.

I don't see it getting done, just wondering if they are going to extend again.....but yeah, far more important things to worry about.....

It's looking hopeless for a deal now and as you said Miller an extension is the best we can hope for now. I don't look for that because the players feel they have the upper hand now. If the nfl doesn't open their books they're at an impass. This thing is about to get as ugly as I had dreaded.

PA has left the building telling the NFL wants 10 years auditted records to accompany any requeast for extension. They have 10 minutes to deliver. There will be decertification today in 5 minutes

NFLPA has filed for decertification

No Lockout. Owners can do force the players to whatever. Players can now sue for anti trust (note: this includes rookies. They may sue for the right to apply for a job anywhere they choose) Owners will be slapped with triple damages for any losses including under selling TV rights which contained a lot of player $$. That TV money alone could wind up costing the owners over $2.5 billion in punitive damages.

Interesting thing I do not understand. Why the owners cannot trade. However there is no present rookie cap so they have to be happy

ex-NFLPA will be making an announcement shortly

So players that make millions are walking away from their jobs? Isn't that how the nfl wanted it to appear to the public? And well isn't it a fact that's what has happened?
