drinking beer and playing some pool this morning I noticed a potential timeline on ESPN that is saying they expect the players to vote on an agreement on an agreement wed/thur and the owners voting to ratify... end result was full free agency starting on the 25th

ESPN radio was saying any of them doing sports center today need to be ready to break off whatever and do live broadcast of the agreement. Most feel it is that close. Only hang ups left are how to compensate those in the law suit.

How many games will they play this fall? I would anticipate a shortened season as training camp has to be about 5 weeks.

If it gets done now they lose nothing - training camp does not normally start until late July

Assuming that most teams report on or around July 25, as Follett suggests, it will give the Bears and Rams 10 days to practice before they're scheduled to face off in the August 7 Hall of Fame Game. Chicago offensive coordinator Mike Martz said he would need just one day to prepare his team to play, while head coach Lovie Smith was a tad less optimistic, telling the Chicago Tribune: "Just the way the NFL is set up: 15 days before the first game. That’s what you want. That’s what it’s been every year. But this is a different year. If the NFL says we’re going to play a game and the Rams are dealing with the same thing, we’re going to get ready."

The Bears might have to make due with something less than 15 days, but either way Smith says his team will be in Canton. "If an agreement gets done and the NFL says we’re going to play the game, we'll be ready. Right now, we haven’t been told that anything has been cancelled."

Looks like this is done.

Multiple sources state that NFLPA will look over final draft and vote to re-instate the union then approve the deal tomorrow. Then Owners will vote on package on the 21st.

Right now, the only hold up I can find is supposedly Vincent Jackson and Logan Mankins are wanting a special settlement as part of the anti-trust law suit. They want either UFA status, or $10 million instead. Not sure what is being done for others in the law suit.

The Boston Herald reports after a far less wrangling and horse trading behind the scenes than some misplaced internet reports would have you believe, the NFLPA will not recommend any special considerations go to the 10 plaintiffs in the Brady case, a source familiar with the dicussions said. After some debate over possible special relief for at least some of the 10 player-plaintiffs, it was determined it would be too cumbersome to try and work out individual deals. Since the bulk of plaintiffs were well-placed NFL veterans, the best way to go, it was decided, was to stick simply with the larger deal negotiated between the NFLPA and the league’s owners. The presence of QB Tom Brady, QB Peyton Manning and QB Drew Brees complicated the issue as they are among the highest paid players in the league. Short of being exempted from the franchise tag there was little of value to them that could be offered. In addition, despite reports to the contrary, neither Manning nor Brees ever asked for special considerations. Neither did Brady. As for OG Logan Mankins, he wold have been happy to have been declared a free agent by having the franchise tag slapped on him by the Patriots in February removed but he never asked for a $10 million payout, as was mistakenly reported in some places. The final deal will be debated Wednesday morning among the NFLPA Executive Committee and the club player reps and an up or down vote is expected to be taken by the end of the day. The deal, which raises the floor of the salary cup while lowering its ceiling and has led both sides to believe they have negotiated a strong deal for their consituencies, would then move on to the owners for ratification. On Thursday, a meeting of all owners and many club officials will take place in Atlanta. At that time, the owners will need 24 of 32 owners to affirm the new CBA. If that occurs, as expected, the lockout would be lifted and the longest management-induced work stoppage in NFL history will have come to an end.

Uh, rumors still abound that Jackson and Mankins want the $10million. The fact its the agents forcing this, and lawyers gives the players the believability to say the above. But there is way too much stating they still want it for me to believe this was wrong.

Being reported by ESPN and PFT that a vote by ownership on new CBA will take place today sometime between 3:30 and 5:50pm.

Also, DeMaurice Smith has scheduled a conf. call for all former union members today as well. No report if this will result in a vote.

Also, not sure what status is for Players to reform union. One timeline has it can be done in one day, another in two weeks.

PFT reporting now that the 2week lead time is a red herring. Can be done in one day. Vote should happen today folks!

The players will probably need a few days to look over it and vote. 1 preseason game has already been canceled.

I keep hearing a vote will be held today. I hope so, if it happens and it gets passed, players can arrive tomorrow, and FA starts wednesday then.
