The Panthers announced Friday that John Fox and his coaching staff will not be retained for 2011.
According to Joe Person of the Charlotte Observer, Fox met with owner Jerry Richardson and was informed he intends for "both sides to move in different directions." Fox was the ultimate lame duck in 2010, just finishing out the string in the last year of his contract with the worst football team in the league. The Panthers are expected to target a young, cheap replacement. Fox should land on his feet as a defensive coordinator at the very least. He went 73-70 in nine seasons, guiding Carolina to its lone Super Bowl in 2003.

Well that didn't take long.

NFL Network's Jason La Canfora mentions Broncos OC Mike McCoy, Chargers DC Ron Rivera, Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh, and Cardinals OL coach Russ Grimm as head coaching possibilities in Carolina.
Adds La Canfora, "I don't think they land Harbaugh," despite the possible repairing with Andrew Luck. La Canfora calls Rivera "among the most likely candidates" to replace John Fox, while noting that a pro coordinator will probably be owner Jerry Richardson's pick. Rivera would be a nice coup for Richardson, and the opportunity to draft Luck makes the Panthers' job more desirable. That changes, of course, if Luck doesn't turn pro.

Harbaugh might be the best option right now because his stock is so high. There is no where but down for Stanford to go next year so it seems to me if he was gonna make a jump do it while everyone thinks the world of him.
