Dan Hawkins and the Colorado Buffaloes predicted a 10 win season.
This is looking like a 10 loss season.
One week after being upset by the Colorado State Rams, and suffering the indignity of having Folsom Field stormed, the Buffaloes looked to right the ship by beating Toledo.
Someone forgot to give the Rockets the message, as Toledo racked up 624 yards of offense in a 54-38 worse than the score looks whipping of Colorado Friday night.
Some telling stats which have to have Big 12 opponents salivating:
Toledo amassed 305 yards rushing on 43 carries. Yes, that averages out to just over 7 yards a carry. At one point it was as high as 8.3
Toledo QB Aaron Opelt was money all night long, throwing for 319 yards with 4 scores and no interceptions. Opelt also rushed for 109 yards and 2 TDs.
Embattled CU QB Cody Hawkins, son of HC Dan Hawkins, and the subject of more than a few calls for a benching, threw 3 damning interceptions. Hawkins did throw 4 TD passes, but most coming after Toledo had already amassed a huge lead.
Colorado was also held to just 95 yards rushing by a Rockets defense which is far and away from a world beater.
Colorado will try to right the ship against Wyoming on Sept 19th before facing off against West Virginia and Texas in consecutive weeks. Between now and then Dan Hawkins will have to seriously justify sticking with his son at QB and face the likelihood of being fired after what should end up being a 1-4 start.
