When a great player that the organization and fan base loves starts coming to the end of the road its never an easy decision to decide to cut a legend. I wasnt able to hear the press conference but I understood they gave out great praise to Brooks as should be the case. But, I can see why they did this.
For the last 2 years Brooks has been hampered by injuries and slowly degraded his play as the season went on. Yes, he has still had great games the past 2 years but there were at the beginning of the season. His problem isn't diminished skills but his body has been starting to break down. But, due too his incredible perserverance and his current game start streak of 192, he always felt he could play and he did. During the final 4 games of this season, it was hard to watch Brooks on occasion. It was hard to watch because there were multiple times where he was in position to tackle the RB, but he was run over and couldn't wrap up. Outside of the last 2 years, it's hard to remember that ever happening. A player at that caliber always thinks they can do it. THAT IS WHAT MAKES THEM GREAT. Just look a Farve, played pretty well to start with, stunk at the end. Brooks was starting to do that recently. It took Farve failing in NY to figure out that the end has come. Remember Jordon with the Wizards? Good nights with Bad nights. The players are usually the last to realize that they aren't at the same level. Hearing Brooks' radio show throughout the year, He doesn't believe that he is done. Thats probably why it was a release instead of a retirement.
Brooks has been of the best people to ever be a Buc. Dunn is right there with him. Sad to see both of them go. Brooks was a driving force for the upcoming cream sickle/throwback jersey game. It's sad that he wont be able to be apart of that. It would be classy to start a ring of honor and put him on it for that game, but he'll probably be on another team so it wont be possible. So sad.
