Brian Westbrook will likely be released in offseason

(Rotoworld) Eagles beat writer Les Bowen confirms that Brian Westbrook "seems likely" to be released this offseason. Analysis: Westbrook's release is inevitable, unless he takes at least a 50% pay cut from his scheduled $7.25 million salary. Going on age 31, Westbrook probably wouldn't be offered more than $2-3M for one year from other teams.

Hmmm......

Its time for the Eagles to cut bait. That said, I dont see him going far up the street to play...perhaps something in silver and blue..... writing one last story with a man named Brady...

I am curious to see what happens with Westbrook. I honestly thought he would retire. The concussions really scared him. Plus his ankle still is not 100% I don't believe. Philly was smart to take McCoy last year...and are in no rush to have to fill in with another back. Still, would much prefer to see Westbrook go out an Eagle then somewhere else.

Westbrook is a much more talented back than Kevin Faulk....

Meaning.. at this current point in time signing Westbrook would give them 2 of the exact same guys. Westy was obviously much more productive throughout his career, but then again so was Fred Taylor.
Jamal Lewis would make more sense, actually.

I hate having players retire off my roster *sigh* It's a blatant coaching error that says "You waited to long to trade him!" heh...

I sure hope McCoy is all that they think he is.

Unreal week for fantasy football legends. Looks like McCoy did enough in the regular season.

Westbrook right now is more talented than Faulk ever was. Welker is down. Moss dont think he will be back for 2011. They might not play in 2011. To me, the Pats dynasty is likely looking at its last run.

LeSean McCoy (21 years old/ RB) and Leonard Weaver (27 years old/ FB) will carry the load. If only they would run more with this one, two punch, they could trade number 5, get some defensive help and let the Kolb era start. Bring B-West back as their 3rd down back, at a lower rate and he can still be of some help.

Westy will not be officially released until March 5th, but the Eagles have told him to start looking for another team. Andy Reid has also apparently stated there is no chance of him returning to the team at a reduced price.

In my opinion this is the end of Brian Westbrook's career, which is a shame considering what he meant to the city and the Eagles. His legacy has been cemented as the best running back in the history of the franchise, however, and I doubt he'll be eclipsed anytime soon.

Consistent injuries, surgeries and multiple concussions (not to mention being 31 years of age) mean that other NFL franchises aren't going to be eager to sign him. I hope that Brian's life after football will be a fulfilling one and that he suffers no long-term health effects. I'll still keep wearing my "36" authentic green jersey on Sundays next season.

Im not saying it wouldnt be a great idea for him to just call it a career, but I dont know if hes ready to do it.

I will always be a fan of his and deeply indebted to him for the the great memories he has provided me as an Eagles fan. He is a breakout player and I truly belive the team is in trouble without him. He could do it all and in that game he got knocked out with a concussion, the Eagles could never recover. I know that they lost to the Cowboys back-to-back because they did not have Westbrook at 100%.

They stunk it up big time on offence. I truly hope he retires, so he retires an Eagle, but also for his well being. I don't want to see or hear about him ending up a vegetable because he take another shot to the head. If he is truly a class act like everyone says he is, his family and friends will lose a great person if he is not himself anymore. Concussions are serious and players who get them really need to take them seriously. Some players have dementia and big problems after football because of the concussions. I think it's Stan Humpries who can't feed himself anymore because of the amount of concussions he sustained during his career. Do you seriously want a life of a senior (peeing in your pants, sitting in a wheelchair and being spoonfed) at the age of 35-40?

You go ahead and take Westy in his current state of health, pricetag and talent, I'll roll the dice with Faulk.
Their dynasty was basically over when they tanked the Super Bowl, but their window of opportunity is far from closed. As long as Brady is healthy and in his prime, the window's wide open. They had a ridiculous amount of draft picks in 2009 and I believe they have even more this year.. so they're essentially reloading as opposed to rebuilding. They were winning with an anonymous band of WR's during the dynasty years so I have to think Welker and Moss are the least of their immediate concerns, so long as Tommy is upright.
This notion that every once-great player who gets old, then cut from his team is automatically a future Patriot kinda cracks me up. They have a pretty good young nucleus with a growing pipeline of replacements which will get even bigger after this upcoming draft.
Westbrook will land somewhere if he wants to at a low salary, and can pass a physical. My advice would be to look for an NFL Network job while he can still walk around unaided and has control of his mental faculties.
