He sure took advantage of Crabs injury last year and parlayed it into a ballet box stuffing pay day. I'm happy for him.

I think he really helps Crabtree this year, but kills the value of V.Davis though.

Wasted money.

He was Kaep's crutch and as long as you give the kid a crutch he'll never become a good QB.

Not a bad guy to have around, mind you, but too much money for a 34 yr old security blanket.

Ouch really?

I don't disagree totally. I would argue he has been the only consistant Wr they have had for Kaep since he has taken over. Crabtree for all his talent seems to disappear at times. V.Davis can't stay out of the doghouse long enough to be a consistant target either. None of the other drafted Wr or FAs have amounted to much either.

I am intrigued if some of the Rbs step up more for him, but still until then, he is the best option in the passing game IMO.

Quite possibly the dumbest thing I have ever read on this board................

Guy had a great year and until Crabtree came back, he was the only WR of any talent and experience they had. Of course Kaep was going to look to him. Calling him a crutch is just foolish. Heard the same thing about his age going into last year. Face it, the guy is a unique player who can still perform at a high level due to his experience and strength. Excellent signing for a relatively cheap price based on what he brings to the team from a "real" football standpoint.........

I seriously doubt that he'll put up half of the numbers that he had last year. As the likely 3rd target on the team next year it was a bit pricey. However like I said earlier, I'm happy for him. He took full advantage of the opportunity that presented itself to him last year and turned it into a nice payday.

I think it is a bit pricey if you just look at the production. He won't come near those numbers.....BUT......he doesn't really have to. He can be another threat to diversify defenses and I'll be damned of there is a tougher WR out there that can provide a presence and attitude for a team that is close. Sometimes it pays to have great intangibles and I am glad to see Boldin rewarded still at this point in his career.

Half the numbers? 43/600/4?

I'll take that bet............

Well said..........

Very valuable player in real football terms. His numbers will drop some (2013 was his 3rd best year fantasy wise in his career), but he is so important to the team from his overall game and the presence he brings. I don't impress that easily, but it was a joy to watch the guy every week and obviously he still has a lot of game left. Always one of my favorite non-49er plays prior to 2013. It would have been a huge loss if he had walked. 6 million was not a bad price to pay.

I agree that he is valuable regardless of the numbers he puts up. watching how he made Flacco look good on that super bowl run and how many times he single handedly bailed that team out that season was amazing. One of the toughest clutch players the past few years imo

If not for Boldin, SF wins the 2012 super bowl by double digits............

Guy was amazing. Flacco threw some horrible passes that the old guy just went up and got, outmuscleing the Niners DBs. Wish they would have got him a year earlier.........
