Ben Tate trys to step up and breaks ankle.

Houston Texans head coach Gary Kubiak said RB Ben Tate has shown he is talented but needs to catch up because of the offseason workouts he missed due to a hamstring injury, reports Nick Scurfield, of HoustonTexans.com. 'He's every bit the talent that we drafted,' Kubiak said. 'He's learning to be a pro. He has to catch up because he missed a lot time because he missed OTAs. He needs to know to get his motor going when he leaves out of the locker room and not 30 minutes into practice. He's working and he's giving us what he's got. He could help this team if he continues to grow up.'
So far he is stuck in 3rd behind Arion Foster and Steve Slaton

RB is said to be the easiest on the field for a rookie to step into and play. From what I've read it doesn't sound like Tate has the playbook down yet.

Don't know why I'm still so hesitant with Tate, I guess RBBCs to me are just too unpredictable. I think Foster's the man till he loses the job himself.

i see Foster as a Fred Jackson type who endears himself to the coach because of his willingness to lay it all on the line. Foster is a blue collar guy who got a shot and is now gonna fight hard to keep it.

In Kubiak speak, (the Texans fans have learned to translate) Kubiak is putting the challenge out to Tate, but is pretty satisfied with the fact that we currently have two guys in front of him.

It's a relief to start the season with potentially three viable running backs.

The kid is coming from a spread offense. He's not used to the intricacies of a Zone Blocking Scheme. He'll keep improving.

As far as fantasy goes, Texans running backs are gonna keep changing until someone shows they can hold on to the ball and make the plays.

It is nice that the Texans have real quality depth At RB this year, the rushing part of their O should produce well.

Listen closely to TexanGrrl's fantasy assessment. Kubiak has had a short leash and a fast hook with RBs. Most coaches let a starting RB suck for most of the game and thinks that since he sucked all game that maybe I will announce a different starter next week....... very fantasy orderly like.
Kubiak will yank a RB in the first quarter if he doesn't like what he sees and might change again at 1/2 time. Having 3 quality choices might slow the hook a bit but monitoring the RBBC could end up a full time job for fantasy owners.

Here's my take on this very fluid situation.....Watch out for Slaton!

Assuming he can stay healthy which is a HUGE assumption for him, but let's pretend for a second that he can; Slaton will keep the job and be very productive as long as he can do ONE thing.....HOLD ONTO THE BALL!

If he can do that, I'm really starting to think Slaton could be a very nice sleeper. Still waiting to move him up my list unitl I see how some of the preseason shakes out though.

I'm going to have to do so sort of curse removal. Man, this team has bad luck with running backs.

great... never should have traded Miller for this guy in Outlaw County :(
:thrash:

sorry my man ;)

I feel bad, I traded Tate to you in one league, traded a pick to TG in another she used to grab Tate.....man, I'm bad karma for Tate.

How bad was it? Did Slaton play at all?

Slaton played. 10 carries for 22 yards and a fumble. Foster got 4 carries for 31 yards. Tate was looking good, then Card's defender ankle tackled him and it was over. Rumors in Houston are either high ankle sprain or fractured ankle. Take your pick as it doesn't look good. Le Sigh.....

Texans | Steve Slaton hasn't shed fumbling problems Sun Aug 15, 03:15 AM
Houston Texans RB Steve Slaton had 10 carries for 22 yards Saturday, Aug. 14, against the Arizona Cardinals, reports The Associated Press. He also had one catch for 21 yards. Slaton, however, did not correct his fumbling problems from a year ago, as he coughed up the football into the end zone, which was recovered by Arizona.
