They need an NFL 2 where each NFL franchise has its own farm team. And put those teams in smaller, less saturated sports markets. Not only would you attract NFL fans but also college football fans.

Something like this:

Hartford (pop. 1,191,000) - Rentschler Field - 40,000 seats - Patriots
New Haven (pop. 846,000) - Yale Bowl - 61,446 - Giants

Agreed, Cerberus, but with the Arena league disapating you have to see an expansion in the future of the UFL if they find success in their opening year.

Sure hope so. I see with the lack of teams in the UFL, people will lose interest really fast.

It is sad that the Arena Football League is gone, and maybe this will be what puts the UFL over the top. But neither will compare to what the NFLE provided for the NFL! With the backing of the NFL, the European league produced players, coaches and referees ready to move up to the big league!

Bring back the NFLE!

Just like the USFL did. LOL I liked the USFL.

It's 4 teams and you can't get anything bigger than that off the ground legitimately without a billion $ behind ya.

This is just a group of guys looking to start out not compete with anything else.

4 teams? Oh yeah it won't last. And i was thinking 6 would have issues trying to survive.

Yeah it's 4 teams this year. They're hoping to grab some viewers and expand further as much as they can every year.

People will lose interest in the 4 teams before this whole thing can get off the ground. It has to make money for them to consider an expansion.

What an awesome idea. Now this there is something i, myself would watch and keep track of. It would be interesting to see players develop from college and go into the pros. What a great idea.

How about Iowa City/Cedar Rapids? The games could be played at Nile Kinnick Stadium, which has far more seats than Drake Stadium has? Also, why not put a team in Omaha or Lincoln, Nebraska? Those people are football-mad.
Seriously, this is a good idea. I'd probably even take in a game or 2.

The only problem is the NCAA, would fight for those markets.
Yale is a D1 school, so you have to work around their football time table.
Now someplace likes U. of Richmond Stadium, which is leased by the school until they build their own stadium, could be big for that city.
You did a lot of research, I guess I will need to check the time table on use of the stadiums and then look at when would be the best time to have this new league play.

I'd figure this would be a short season spring league as the NFL needs many of these players during the regular NFL season on their practice squads. Plus a spring league would allow some back-up players on the NFL roster get more reps.

I like your idea of an NFL2, it would have to be a spring league. Now the issues that need to be identified;
How many games will be played?
When will it start?
How will it affect the draft?
Let say the Super Bowl is played third week in January and the Pro Bowl the first week of February. Make the draft 1st or 2nd week of April. The NFL2 league starts the next week after the draft. There is a full season 16 games and play-offs. Now we are in August, the big league has a couple of pre-season games and then the main season kicks inn. With this farm league, there is a better evaluation of the fringes players. There can be a slow down on crazy salaries, and this could bring down the prices, so more people can enjoy a live game.
The big issue of funding this farm league, acquire local TV contracts and the NFL network picks up the national games. There will be lots of sponsors who will be glad to hitch their wagon to this new NFL!

If its a spring league, there should not be any conflict with college football for the fields, or fans. It would give people something to watch during football's "off-season".
