Alex Smith meeting with Phins today

After Flynn met with Miami, now FA Smith will meet with them today. Niners offered him a 3 year deal for 24 million which i think is more than fair. This manning thing though must be a huge slap in the face to Smith. To much for him to handle?. I don't think Smith is gonna solve any of Miami's troubles either. I really hope we don't sign him

He's not good and he has to be kicking himself to have not signed the 3 year/24 million dollar offer SF had on the table. His only value is in SF and Smith is smart enough to know that, so he will wait until Manning commits before he signs anything. He's just exploring his options if Manning does sign with SF, which is smart on his part.

As far as the Niners interest in Manning being a "slap in the face". How could anyone view it this way? Manning is one of the great QBs of all time and any team in SFs position would be foolish not to take an interest. They have one area of weakness so why wouldn't they look at fixing that with one of the great players of all time?

This is becoming strange....... lowballing Flynn......... while flirting with Alex Smith.

Smith will visit the Dolphins, the Associated Press reports. Analysis: Not long ago, Smith's return to the 49ers seemed inevitable, but with the team in on the Peyton Manning sweepstakes, Smith will now weigh other options. Matt Flynn has also garnered interest from the Dolphins, who were spurned by Manning.

If i were alex smith and took my team to the playoffs with record they had last year and was intent on getting even better next year, and my team was pursuing another QB that would be a severe slap in the face to me(if i were him) but just my opinion( but yes this is his own doing). You are exactly right though that Alex could have avoided all this himself if he would have signed that contract. He may have severely screwed up his career because not many teams believe in him as a starting QB anyway.
And i do agree that it would be smart of Manning to pursue this because they would have a great shot of going all the way next year.

True.... Niners were the first team that popped in my head when the PM stuff started.

Well, if SF were looking at someone like Flynn, then yeah, I could see Smith viewing that as a slap in the face. But Peyton Manning? Smith couldn't possibly be that blind where he would view that as anything but a potentially great move for the team.

Food for thought. If Manning goes to the Titans, Hasslebeck will need a new home. Frankly, I would rather have him than Alex Smith..........

Now Smith is supposedly coming to Seattle for a visit. This could really backfire on the 9ers

Barrows cites sources saying Smith is ticked off with the 49ers for what he perceived as a gap between their public comments and the contract offer they made him. We might have previously assumed hard feelings had developed between the 49ers and Smith, but this is the first I've seen it reported. The presence of hard feelings recasts this situation. We should no longer see this as simply a case of both sides doing their professional duty by exploring options available to them.

That's funny AD. Good one...........

If Smith is foolish enough to sign with anyone before Manning commits and if Seattle is foolish enough to give him anything close to what he turned downed with SF, then good riddance. The guy isn't very good.

If Manning signs with Tennessee, watch how quickly either Smith signs with SF OR better yet IMO, SF jumps all over Hass.

The Niners do not fear losing Smith. Trust me on that one.

Then why has he stated as such, and is now looking at firing his agent Tom Condon, who is also agent for Manning? :dunno:

Sooo......

Miami tries for Manning gets told no.
Tries for Flynn, and he signs elsewhere.

Does anyone else think this is de ja vu? Didn't this happen last year as well?

Well, you heard here first, next Miami Qb will be Ryan Tannehill from the draft. And there are a ton of teams below Miami that is tickled by that.

I didn't mean to imply that Smith didn't say it was a slap in the face. I just can't believe he would actually think that way. SF would be foolish not to look at Manning and Smith is an idiot for thinking it's a slap in the face to him.

Why? Aren't you competitive? The kids sucks, I agree, but he took his team to one play short of making the superbowl. How does he get rewarded? By the team going for a top FA at Qb. Now, I get your point.....Manning is Manning.....or is he?

Guy has a legit gripe in my mind. He did what they wanted, played well, is negotiating to get a solid contract, and his agent is undercutting him for another client.

I doubt they will go after Tannehill. At least i hope they don't.
Then who? Moore is not a long term solution. I would book the Tannehill pick, unless Cleveland moves to take him earlier.

No, he has no gripe. It's Peyton Manning. Regardless of how competitive you are, you need to be realistic.

They almost made it to the super bowl because of a great defense, not anything Smith did. He played well against the Saints but that was about it. If he plays even average against the Giants, SF wins that game by 10 points. He sucked and although Kyle Williams was the goat, Smith deserves some of that blame too.

As far as his agent undercutting him. Again, no. Top agents represent multiple QBs. Bad situation for him, I agree, but that kind of stuff happens. SF is interested in Manning, so Condon has to try to get that deal done in the interest of both parties. He can't worry about Smiths feelings at this point.

Smith made a boatload of money in SF while he sucked it up and was injured for 6 years. Sorry, he has no legit reason to feel like he got screwed. Stop being a candyass and recognize the situation for what it is.

When players no longer bolt from a team as soon as they can for more $$ then they can cry about how teams "treat" them. I have little allowance for how these players cry like little b!tches about being mistreated when they will so happily leap at a whim.... or is it only a business when they want more money, and then its something else when they want to be treated special?

As a Miami fan since we can't get nothing right i am fine with Moore to start all next season considering all the other options and plan on getting something done the season after. What is gonna happen is the same crap next year we will sign "temp qb's" ,for example,(sage,jp.losman) only next season they will probably go after Garrard. All the options I can think of right now would not be much better than Moore.

i posted this is the other alex smith thread, seems apropos here
Why should Smith feel dissed?
Because his team thought PM a better qb?

On the other hand, it does give Alex room to question his pregame shoulder/helmet slapping ritual with Big Jim.
How much is hyperbole and how much is real confidence.

Smith finally approached his potential again (remember how well he played for Norv?).

And has market value.
He could go to Miami and start the circle all over again.
Or he can stay in SF and be that QB who doesn't make the mistakes no one is asking him to make.

Considering how much Alex was paid from his contract as the first pick in the draft, his next contract will be for peanuts, regardless of where he goes.

In conclusion, if you bothered to read this far, Phicin is right.
SF may have pushed Alex too far.

Sometime it just hurts too much to be where you're not wanted.
I know from experience how that feels.
