Lombardi just said on NFLN that they hyave agreed in principal to a deal. No #'s or length of contract stated yet

I would hope so. Unless Smith takes the next step (which I doubt), Kapernick will be the starter in 2013.

However, I hope Smith surprises us all and builds on last year. I just don't see it though..............

Smith is wise to swallow his misplaced pride and return to take the best offer he would ever see. There is no other place for him really, and he should be grateful to have a place on a team, once that can win.

He should be Okay. His 1st contact was 6 years, $50mil (8/year), and he just got another 3 years at the same pay rate

good move in the end. Don't blame 9ers for flirting with Manning, but once he was off the table, going back to Smith makes all the sense in the world for both sides.
