Vilma has been banished for all of 2012, effective immediately and through the Super Bowl, for his role in the bounty scandal. Vilma reportedly put $10,000 cash on the table in the team’s meeting room and said the cash would go to anyone who could knock Brett Favre out of the NFC Championship Game in January of 2010.

Anthony Hargrove, who’s now with the Packers, was given an eight-game suspension after the NFL said that he, too, targeted Favre in the NFC Championship Game. The NFL says that Hargrove eventually admitted his role in the team’s bounty program, but that at first “Hargrove also actively obstructed the league’s 2010 investigation into the program by being untruthful to investigators.”

Will Smith was suspended four games. The NFL says he worked with former defensive coordinator Gregg Williams in setting up the bounty program.

Browns linebacker Scott Fujita is no longer in New Orleans, but he was given a three-game suspension for his role in the bounty program when he played for the team.

there has to be more players then this?

there has to be more players then this?
Here wasthe criteria-

Other players participated in the bounty program to varying degrees but aren’t facing suspension. Goodell said his player discipline focused on players who:
X: Held leadership positions for the Saints.
X: Contributed a particularly large sum of money toward the program.
X: Specifically contributed to a bounty on an opposing player.
X: Demonstrated a clear intent to participate in a program that potentially injured opposing players and sought rewards for doing so.
X: Obstructed the 2010 investigation.

In any case like this, you have to greatly punish the biggest offenders. They had the opportunity to respond, and did not show up. They brought it on themselves, I feel no pity at all.

The only pity I feel is for the Saints fans.

This action could have been taken against nearly every team in the league but the Saints screwed up by going after a 40 year old prima donna heart throb and media baby.

You'd have to go a long ways to convince me that Favre isn't at the bottom of this.

Either way....guilty as charged.

But you will see that this episode will not only ruin the Saints 2012 campaign but will render them insignificant for years to come.

Back to the cellar for the "who dats" for the next decade.

rotoworld,
The NFL Players Association has filed a grievance against the NFL challenging the commissioner's authority to suspend four players in the bounty scandal.
We knew this was coming. The NFLPA alleges the suspensions "violated the [league's] duty of fairness to the players" due to limits on commissioner Goodell's authority and insufficient evidence. Sources told ESPN earlier in the week to expect "a massive multiple legal battle over this on several fronts."

The NFL has turned into a bunch of political type BS.

Over the course of every year now, there is more drama related news than news about games, playoff talk, and other real football news

With ya 100% Mike. If everybody would focus on playing football and stop all this other nonsense life would be great. I also believe in this specific situation that ignorance is not an excuse(as with anything) and stupidity should always be punishable in any arena of life.
