What was that about the Eagles having secondary???

OK, this really pisses me off.

You signed a contract!! Do you know what that means? It means what until the term of the contract has expired, you're stuck with it.

If you didn't think it was a fair deal, then you shouldn't have signed to it in the first place.

I am so sick and tired of hearing about these players demanding new contracts.

I think about it like this. I buy a home in a nice growing neighborhood. I agree to a deal with my the sellor and realtor that seems to fit us both. I then make monthly payments on the home for a long period of time until it is paid off.

3 years after the purchase, the sellor comes back to me and states that the homes in the neighborhood are selling for a considerable mark up from what they sold the home to me for. They now want to re-negotiate the deal based on the current state of the market so they can get "fair money" on the home they previously sold me.

I, of course, tell them to bugger off! They then start making things difficult for me. They don't do anything big or terrible, just cause me little heacaches. They park their car at the end of my driveway so I can't backout in the morning. They prank call me during dinner and at strange hours of the night. They tell my neighbors about my poor credit and how it delayed the original closing of the sale. They knock over my full trash cans every Thursday...Ect Ect.

Finally, after becoming irritated I start to actually consider re-negotiating until I remember that WE SIGNED A FREAKING CONTRACT!!!

I will admit I am split here.

I was like you at first, you signed the contract, no one forced you, so live with it.

but as Mike has brought out numerous times, the NFL teams are not held to that standard. Since the only part of the contract that is guaranteed is the up front money, teams can cut ya or end a contract at any time.

That all being said, I am somewhat pissed here. I am tired of players negotiating through the papers rather than with the team. Brown is a good Cb, but by no means one of the best. If I know Philly.....and I am a huge Philly fan, they will start drafting to replace him....just like they did Lito Sheppard when all this started with him.

I think Wes was right, look for Philly to target a Cb relatively early in this draft.

Obviously if the Eagles' secondary loses Sheldon Brown to a trade or if we bench him on principle our secondary becomes suspect. Sheldon is a very important part of our defense. He has a high football IQ, is a great tackler (I have the picture of him smashing Reggie Bush autographed and hanging to the right side of me as I type this), and is an excellent man-to-man defender.

All that being said, I am disappointed that Brown has decided to take this route just 2 years into a six year deal that offered him a $7,500,000 signing bonus. He signed that contract because it gave him long-term security and guaranteed he'd be wealthy. If he's going to be upset at someone he should be upset at his agent for suggesting he sign a long-term deal with generous bonuses.

It's unfortunate that this had to happen. If I were the Eagles I would try to front-load rather than back-load his current deal, instead of creating a completely new contract. This would be a compromise that could be afforded because the team has a ton of cap space right now. If some other player wanted the same treatment I'd just tell them "you're not as important as Sheldon Brown" plus I wouldn't have set a precedent of re-doing deals I would only have restructured the existing deal.

Arizona has a need at CB, Philly obviously likes Bolden, Brown has a long term deal in place, why would you not at least try and offer Brown and maybe this year's 2nd and 4th straight up for Bolden?

Philly keeps their 1st round pick, which they can use to take the best CB on their board, they both get players that will really help their team and get rid of malcontents, and I would guess (without researching) that the cap numbers would be fairly compatible.

I like that offer. That way Philly can take Sean Smith off of the Steeler's draft board :pickle:

 How dare you offer up logic and a very reasonable trade in this thread! Shame, shame on you! :nono:

Seriously though....I like this idea a whole lot!
