We'll go with the standard starting roster here in a 12 team league.
QB - 1
RB - 2
WR - 3
TE -1
K - 1
Def - 1
So we have 9 total starting positions. How many bench spots should there be? We'll go with 9 so you have a backup for each position's bye week. But most people don't keep and extra kicker or defense on their bench during the season. So that leaves 2 extra spots open. And some teams choose not to keep an extra tight end on their team either. So that opens up yet another bench position. So now we have 3 extra spots where teams normally load up on extra backs and receivers. But then the bye weeks come and we need to drop one of those extra players to pick up the bye week filler for our TE, K, or Def spot which we chose not to back up in the draft. Now we lose one of our sleeper players. And we'll say another owner picks up that player from the waiver wire. Now we're out one of our sleepers and we're mad. But then another thing to take into consideration is the FA and Waiver crop. The more bench positions allowed per team, the slimmer the pickens get for those FA and Waiver players. No matter what, every owner wants that one more bench spot because they want one more player. It's a vicious cycle.
So Outlaws, how many bench spots are ideal for that perfect roster?
