What happened to Eagles TE Brent Celek last year.

A lot of us were big on Brent Celek going into last year after a very nice performance the year before.

But.......

Brent Celek's 127 pass-blocking snaps ranked fifth among tight ends last season, according to Pro Football Focus. It's a significant increase over Celek's breakout 2009 season, where he was asked to pass block on just 75 snaps. Michael Vick passed to tight ends at a 16.1 percent clip last season compared to 20.1 for Kevin Kolb (and 28.1 in Vick's last season with the Falcons). Even if the Eagles' revamped O-Line bounces back Celek may remain a fourth option in the passing game.

My take is the style of QB Vick is. He doesn't get through all of his prgressions to get to the TE. His dump off guy is McCoy. His first reads are normally his two fine wideouts. If he feels pressure he heads North and South. and doesn't get to the Celek read. Other QB's with mobility will slide in the pocket and re-setup allowing for the TE to come open. Now of course, play calling comes into play, and they just didn't call Celeks # as much last year. Vick also has the ability to shake off a play because of pre-snap reads.

I gotta agree here. But with one caveat. They did have plays where Celek was the hot read down by the goal line, but went away alot from those due to the need to keep him in to block. Hopefully that will change...and they can use him again at the goal line. Also, Celek was banged up some last year, and not at full speed. That too could have been an issue.

Agreed

One of the biggest problems was the disarray of the offensive line, especially the health and play of our tackles. Brent Celek was asked to do a lot of blocking as a result.

Clearly, Celek is capable of being a dominant fantasy TE and would have been with Kolb. I wouldn't hold your breath for next season, however. Michael Vick doesn't seem to look his way very often and BCelek has reportedly added more weight to become a better blocker.
