Way Too Soon For This, But...

4 keeper league, PPR, 6pts all TDs. Keepers cost you a draft pick based on where you drafted them. The numbers following the name are the draft round I will lose to keep that player.

Start: 1 Qb, 2 RB, 3WR, 1 TE. 3rd WR may become a flex....not sure yet.

My Team:

Drew Brees 1
Jason Campbell 16

Chris Johnson 3
Knowshon Moreno 3
Shonn Green 16
Steve Slaton 16
Justin Forsett 16
Arian Foster 16

Andre Johnson 1
Desean Jackson 4
Josh Cribbs 16

Vernon Davis 16

Wish it was a dynasty league but....oh well.

The obvious keepers based on value would be Brees, C. Johnson, A. Johnson and Jackson. That would mean my first draft pick in a 12 team 4 keeper league would be the fifth, so my first pick in the draft would be a low talent RB2, a decent TE or a WR3.

The other avenue I'm looking at is letting Brees and A. Johnson go, there by giving me my 1 and 2 back, and taking advantage of some of the HUGE value I have at the rnd 16 slot.

Davis and Greene for a 16 and 15 sounds pretty darn good to me. Or Greene and Slaton/Forsett/Foster (which ever looks like the best bet after the pre-season)

I could start the season with CJ, Jackson, Greene and Davis and have my 1st 2 picks to get a QB and WR2.

Anyhow, lots of combinations to consider and as the thead title indicates, way too soon for this, but how would you all handle a situation like this?

Keep a #1 QB, a #1 RB and 2 #1 WRs or take advantage of the incredible value sitting on the bench.

In a 6 point/all TD league, you have to keep Brees. I can't envision a scenario where anyone decent wouldn't be kept at QB in this league's format. I'm a big fan of the Bird-in-the-Hand concept. You could possibly have the top scorer at all FOUR of your keeper slots with Brees, A.Johnson, C.Johnson, and Davis. Who better could you be getting with your first 3 picks? If you think you could get Davis (or an equivalent TE) back, MAYBE look at Greene. Either one of them is essentially free so I'd base it on how the rest of your leaguemates handle their keepers. I would assume you'd have a better chance of getting Greene in the 4th round as opposed to Davis, though.

I'm a believer that Brees is getting ready to start a downward spiral. call it a hunch :dunno:

I'm with you there Chris.

Not that he won't be a #1 but he won't be a top 5.

I don't see keeping Jackson @ a 4 as being a huge step down vs Andre @ a 1. Both were top 5 last year.

In order to have a 1st round pick I'll have to drop both Brees and Andre (and that will give me my 1 & 2). If I only drop 1 of them it frees up a #2

There is a decent chance I will be able to turn around and pick one of them back up again with my 1st round pick (10th) because not many teams will HAVE a 1st round pick.

I know it sounds silly to drop a guy that will cost a 1 and then use my 1 to draft him but it allows me to keep a Greene or a Davis at a super bargain. It also gives me a shot at the top rookies.

The QB thing is scary, though. If I drop Brees and can't draft him back my next best option will be a Matt Ryan/Eli Manning type (or worse).

My point was not whether Brees would or wouldn't start a decline (which I doubt will be 2010), but everything you just said validates it. Giving up one of the guys you have locked in simply to HAVE a 1st rounder is pointless when that pick will be used on an inferior replacement. All these guys in play are young enough to be supremely valuable in a keeper league, assuming Brees can give you 3-4 more years of top-level production. I also firmly believe that everyone else's keeper status will afford you a MUCH better chance at getting Greene with your 4th rounder than it would to reacquire Brees or Andre with your first. And again, since you get 6 points for all TD's, QB's rule the roost and you have one of the best. The step down you'd be taking in points would be tremendous. Same with AJ.
Basically, in my eyes at least, you have 3 slamdunks and the only real question is between Davis and DeSean/Greene. Although if you lock in Davis with essentially a throwaway pick, you've got arguably the top TE for 2010+ and can flood your roster with the best available RB's and WR's when your draft picks start.

You should dump them all and start over. They didn't help much last year when it counted!! If you want I'll trade you my championship winning guys for your terrible losers -:rolllaugh: Great problem you got!!!

You guys are laughing, but the way I see it, a Dynasty is a process...not a possession.

You have to keep the talent flow moving or it will stagnate.

Shonn Green, Vernon Davis, Chris Johnson and Desean Jackson could be a nice core group for a lot of years at little to no expense.

The early picks can be used to bring in the guys you need to round out your line-up and your later picks used to scrape the long-shot barrel.

Everyone chases last years studs and it doesn't pay off that often.

I feel your pain Tekie and hail being your friend I'll be willing to take last years stud, CJ, off your hands for you in a trade. Anything to help a buddy ya know.

THen kept Bree and trade him. lets say for Aaron Rodgers. If you can.

Trading Brees or Andre for a tier 2 + at a lower pick sounds intriguing.

I think Ray Rice went in the 6th. What about an offer like Brees & Moreno for Rice?

CJ and Rice would be nice RB Duo, I'd Keep my #1 pick and could keep 2 of Andre, Davis, Jackson or Greene.

Who besides Rice went in the later rounds and would be worth trading for?

I know Brady has very late round price tag on him.....hmmmm
