Washington Redskins Release RB Clinton Portis

Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis' release is imminent -- likely tomorrow, a league source told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Despite another injury-plagued season, Portis still considers himself an elite running back.

"I know I got good football left in me," Portis told reporters on Wednesday. "I think being fresh, having been really in the last two years not having a lot of contact, I think the two injuries -- going out with a concussion, and then the torn groin -- was really fluke injuries. I don't think that's a wear and tear, like, 'Oh his body broke down.' I think that was just fluke injuries."

Portis, who has spent seven of his nine years in the NFL with the Redskins, played in only five games last season, rushing for just 227 yards and two touchdowns.

Portis will be 30 next season and he's owed more than $8 million.

Sounds like another Brian Westbrook scenario.

He'll get shuffled off to some team for depth at RB, forgotten about, and then blow it up when #1 goes down (leap-frogging the young "handcuff" that you carried on your roster all year)

i know it's shanahan land, but how high would you rank torain now? . . . i was able to grab him in my keeper league during the season . . . ;)

Ya, We have All-Terrain, Kieland, and James Davis. Torain should have the edge, but I hope you don't have to declare keepers until late into training camp. I'm routing for Davis myself. Should be good trade bait if you have any Skins fans in the league at least

Good Point. The Rat's RB situation is always one to avoid, but the fact these guys have injury history just makes it worse.

luckily, we don't have to declare keepers until early preseason right before our draft . . . and he's not my #1 . . . i've got ray rice and also d. williams although he let me down last year . . . the trade bait idea sounds like a plan as i usually avoid rb's under shanahan anyways . . . ;)

curious where williams ends up if he's no longer a panther although i'm hearing they gave him a restricted tag for now depending on how the cba plays out . . . ;)
